Found a Saiga rifle in the wantad. This is the info the guy sent me on it. Cond. is MIBDoes anyone have any opinions on the rifle:

It is listed as Saiga Rifle (synthetic)semi auto rifle. It is manufactured by the Izmash fsctory in Izhevsk, Russia. The original AK plant is located here. This rifle is a sporter version of the AK-47.The mag capacity is 8+1. It has a 16 in.barrel

Are extra mags available? Hi cap mags available?

Is it worth $315 Thanks Tim

Do a search here and at TFL for Saiga rifles. There is a ton of info and feedback on the subject.

In short, they are excellent.

You will have to download the .pdf of their catalog. The 7.62x39 version of the SAIGA is only $159 + FFL transfer + $10 shipping. You do the math. Most local shops sell the synthetic stock models at $199 for the 7.62x39 version and a little higher for the .308 or .223 version.

Thanks! I guess this guy is expensive. I noticed the MSRP on this rifle is $399. The one thing that appeals to me is that it would be a private sale

Handled a .308 version a few weeks back---seemed well made and all------but the way the stock is shaped---it seemed like quite a reach(at least to me) for the trigger.

I also didn't like how the trigger went up---as opposed to back-----when the trigger was pulled.

Yup---CDNN has the best prices on Saiga's---from your description sounds like you were looking at a .308 version----not 7.62x39.

I believe _American Rifleman_ did a review on the Saiga .308 recently (in the Dope Bag?)

Their big knock was the trigger. The standard AK trigger had to be "stretched" with a lever to get the length of pull decent. Seems like it would be a tough trigger to improve.

But they liked every other aspect of the gun.

The .308 versions are the only ones that have the "up and back" type trigger. The others are more like regular AK style triggers.
