As I sit here on NFL opening Sunday, I wonder if there are ANY pro 2nd amendment NFL teams. I'm sure all of the team owners own guns (rich people are usually hypocrites), even though they constantly make public statements implying that their players shouldn't "mess" with guns. I'm also pretty sure that effectively all of the players own guns despite the arrogant attitude of the owners and others in the league. What doesn't help, is the fact that VERY few of the black players come from families and/or cities where gun ownership is seen as a GOOD, or even a "sporting" thing. It appears that because of this, the players seem skiddish about being pro gun, even though most of them have mini "arsenals" (based on what I've seen make the news when one gets arrested for something). I think there would normally be a pro gun shooters/sportsmen/lobbying group among the players, but there isn't because of the "guns are evil/guns cause crime" culture that most of the players come from. BECAUSE of this culture, I'm looking to see if there is a spot of light such as a semi pro gun team in the NFL.

I think it would be fantastic if movie stars, Hollywood producers, professional athletes and NFL team owners all shut their traps about guns and stopped trying to prove their status by getting everyone else to do whatever they do.

That is a very anti free speech statement. I have no problem with the liberty haters opening their mouths because it shows their true colors. What FROSTS me is that the people on the GOOD side (pro gunners) keep their mouths shut because of the fear of other men/women.

he's not saying there should be a law preventing them from talking. he's saying it would be fantastic if they were smart enough to **** before they embarass themselves and annoy everything

Pro gun NFL teams? What does it matter? Guns have nothing to do with the sport.

Maybe you want to know about the positions of teams on gay marriages, abortion, nuclear power, pollution, and cervicalcancer?

Some people should just refrain from posting when they have absolutly nothing helpful to add.

But Too answer your question in the April 2006 American Rifleman there is an Article about the Washington Redskins and The NRA hosting a Clay Shooting Challenge.

I remember there being stuff in the news about various players carrying guns themselves. A college player here was just busted for something of that sort too, I think.

brett favre makes no secret about being a hunter.

That doesn't mean that he's necessarily pro gun at all. Around here, everyone owns guns, but some also say "If you can't/shouldn't hunt with it, then you shouldn't be allowed to own it."

I've heard of some pro athletes getting in trouble for illegally carrying guns...

I think the latest might have been an Eagles rookie. Coach didn't kick his butt TOO hard apparently, so does that count as being pro-gun? ;)

And I agree with the stament about Favre and hunters....just as not every RKBA advocate is a hunter - not every hunter is a RKBA advocate.

Besides, from what I know of the guy, I'd still have a hard time rooting for a man (who's ALREADY a legend in the sport) that can't lay down and let the "next generation" step up. It's like T.O. If I found out he was a card-carrying NRA member, I'd STILL hate him! :D

Not entirely related, but some teams in the NFL and other pro leagues have contract clauses prohibiting "dangerous activities",such as four-wheeling. I wonder if shooting is ever in there somewhere?

Green Lantern, you know Land of Confusion is a Genesis cover, right?;)

A lot of the Chicago Bears players were shooting at the local FBI range, per the FBI's invitation - made the papers as afterwards there was a party with alcohol and two of the offensive linemen got into a fist fight with each other. Also seem to recall some arrests for having a loaded pistol in their vehicle of a couple of Bear and Bulls players, (it's illegal in Chicago if it's loaded). Doesn't really make them pro-gun though.

I will second the post on the Washington Redskins - publicly sponsoring a charity shooting event - especially on the east coast is fairly pro-gun in general - as any public event involving guns and celebrity is an invitation for criticism and controversy.

Kind of reflects my thoughts on the matter.

I know for a fact that the Dallas Cowboys used to have a pro-gun head coach, when Barry Switzer was here. Yup, he like them so much in fact, he wanted to fly with them. :D

Pro-gun is risky position when job is media intensive.

I think a lot of them just keep their mouths shut because the media is a big enough PITA for them already. If the media finds out their pro-gun, the paparazzi would probably try to push them into something stupid just to get a story.....those bottomfeeding worms.

Ouch, no wheeling, that doesn't work for me. Wonder if they prohibit them from skiing or snowboarding also. Save the risk for the jobsite I suppose. For that kind of money I suppose I could refrain. But then again, snowsports make it easy to cover up and hide your identity when it's freezing outside.

...pro leagues have contract clauses prohibiting "dangerous activities",...

This may not indicate an anti-gun sentiment anyway. It is strictly to protect the investment that the team has in the player. Why pay millions for a guy who can't play during the season because he got injured on his off time because he likes rock climbing, or whatever. Like they banned Rothlisburger from riding his motorcycle. It wasn't because the team owners are against motorcycles.

Don't know what the official team position is, but here a couple years ago the Washington Redskins continued with a sporting clays fundraiser event to benefit inner-city kids. They were under pressure from the usual anti-gun pukes and didn't buckle under.

2TransAms...uh, er...yeah, of course I knew that! I was just, uhmm...TESTING you! :D

Phil - Good point on Big Ben there. Especially if he's fond of riding without any kind of head protection! :what: It would be one thing if they JUST said "no shooting." But like you said, the owners need to protect their "investment."

Part of me does not like how people "idolize" sports stars, celebs, and the like. But I'd still love to see a lot more people like Tom Selleck and Bruce Willis who are celebrities and aren't afraid to be pro-2a.

Like it or not, I think many people take the word of celebs at higher value than the word of everyone else. And with more than a few vocal ANTI-gun celebs...it would be nice to even the odds with more pro-guns!

I promise if I ever get famous (maybe I can convince someone to buy my idea of a ER-type show set in a pharmacy :D) I'll use my "celebrity soapbox" to constantly spread the virtues of RKBA and the right to self-defense!

National Organizations With Anti-Gun Policies

The following organizations have lent monetary, grassroots or some other type of direct support to anti-gun organizations. Many of these organizations were listed as "Campaign Partners," for having pledged to fight any efforts to repeal the Brady Act and the Clinton "assault weapons" ban. All have officially endorsed anti-gun positions.

the kicker for 3 time Super-Bowl winning New England Patriots ( now with the Indianapolis Colts) was in the Boston Herald last year aiming a Sig-Sauer downrange at their acadamy in New Hampshire. He went on about his pro gun stance... Maybe thats why the Pats didn't resign him?? LOL

A few years ago, New Mexico State's "Pistol Pete" mascot lost his sidearm.

"Kind of reflects my thoughts on the matter."

Every now and then somebody will publish the educational accomplishmens and criminal and mental health histories of these people. the most recent I saw contrasted them against such people as George Bush and Secretary Rice. The contrast was fairly sharp and gave the strong impression that maybe the celebs know less about public policy and politics than the later two.

Carefull putting Brett Favre and T.O. in the same sentance around Packers fans... very dangerous proposition. :neener:

(I DO agree with your point about T.O. though, I can't think of a single thing he could do/say that would make me like him.... except maybe if he just shut up and played football.)

Many of the Vikings players have carry permits in MN. Which reminds me they are going to whoop up on Washington tonight!!! GO VIKES
