**PING!!**

I think I have enough saved up for one. Anyone seen the factory 'new' Springfield Armory M1 Garands in the Socal area?

.308 for ammo logistics.

Ah, you want a .308 ;) Just pick up a Rack Grade CMP M1 ($400) and send it off to Fulton Armory and have them put on a new .308 barrel.

With a rack grade you'll probably need new handguards or maybe even a new stock. But...you were going to get a tactical synthetic stock anyway... :neener:

Just buy a CMP Garand, and spend the difference on ammo. They have m2 ball in clips running about $80 for 400 rds. At those prices, logistics shouldn't be a problem. Plus, you'll own a real piece of history that may have served at Normandy, Anzio, or Iwo Jima, AND you'll be rescuing a gun from possible destruction by the government. You can't lose!

$250 will get you a Grade A (forged) receiver from the CMP. Have someone build it into a .308 rifle. I know you specified SA, Inc., but I just can't believe that you'd prefer the inferior receiver; why settle?

I'd buy a receiver only, since you will probably be putting a synthetic stock on it.. Of course I think you should get a wooden stock for it; as it's a Garand... But then again, the synthetic is more tactical...:D

P I N G !!

Skunk already has an M1A, doesn't he? Best be careful you don't mix up your .308 and .30-'06 when loading them!

That said, I want to buy a Garand too!

I'd still go with the CMP rack grade instead of getting a receiver. With a receiver you'll have to get a parts kit, which will cost you more than the extra $150 a rack grade will cost over a stripped receiver. The bolt, gas cylinder and op rod will cost you more than $150!! Plus a lot of parts kits have been coming out with unserviceable parts lately.

If you need parts contact bbkings on ebay. Her prices are better than Fulton Armory and new-in-the-wrap is the same no matter who you buy it from.

Any .308 SA Inc Garands in the Socal area? :)

I called Turner's and ARMUSA, neither had 'em.

CMP M1 Garands have forged receivers.

USGI, WWII and Korean War vintage, using tooling and labor that would be prohibitively expensive this day and age.

Springfield, Inc is using cast Lithgow receivers in their "new" M1 Garands. These receivers have been of dubious quality. Check out the Fulton Armory website for a technical review of the receiver.

They're not really "new"rifles, either. New cast receiver, new wood, old USGI parts. If the old USGI parts are in like-new condition, that's a good thing. If they're not, well...
