It has been a while since I reloaded much for 12 gauge. All of it was for trap shooting for fun. When I was loading them I think shot was about $20 a 25# bag of shot. Prices seem to have risen, both for components and for loaded ammo. The local box store has 100 rounds for $20. I was just wondering if people were finding components cheaper than this? Best price I have found shot for local was right at $34 for a 25lb bag. Powder is at $22 a pound, primers are running $35/1000, wads are at $12/500. Assuming I have left over hulls I'm running at $21/100 plus my time for simple range loads. Is there anyone making these blasting loads on the cheap without purchasing in ungodly bulk? I was ready to start back up loading shotshell but I can't find it any cheaper than the basic value packs at Walmart. Ignore the whole "good old days" talk are any of you making these cheaper? It seems the specialty loads or a smaller than 20 gauge is the only place worth while to reload shotshell.

Goodness those prices are high. I thought I was paying too much.
Here, I pay:
$33/K primers
$98/8lb powder (Promo, others of course are a bit more)
$8-10/500 wads, depending on brand
$29/25 lbs shot
These are current as of last week. I was a bit annoyed lead went UP instead of down (it was $27 all spring/summer). Last time I ran the numbers I figured right around $40/flat of 250 rnds, which is $4/box. Not much savings, but I enjoy loading nearly as much as I do shooting. The cheapest I can buy shells is $54/flat. The local Wally World wants $23 for the value packs. It's kinda funny you'd have more expensive components, but cheaper loaded ammo. Powder is what's killing your analysis, though. There is substantial savings to buy a keg rather than 1 lb bottles, and you'd be surprised how fast it goes. It will keep for a long time as well if you don't shoot much. Just keep it sealed, cool, & dry.
