I am in my late 50's and have had Lazy Eye since I was 5 years old. My right eye is lazy and I'm a right handed shooter. I had yet another operation 4 years ago, and finally got it corrected. Now when I shoot handguns I must aim with my left eye or my POI is low left. Rifle or shotgun doesn't affect me,only handguns. Anyone else had similar experiences?

I have that problem.

It seems to me you may be left eye dominant. Are you an archer?

Yes, but I haven't shot in 30 years. How does it effect your POA vs POI?

I have a lazy eye (right) also since about 4 or 5 years old. What surgery are you referring to? I have always been told that the only thing that could have corrected it was to wear a patch on the left eye; but after about age 10-12, it won't work. I didn't wear a patch. Had one for a while as a kid, but just never wore it.
I shoot pistols right handed, but aiming with left eye. I guess that makes me left eye dominant.
Now for rifles, I HAVE to shoot left handed. It started in basic training when I could not qualify on the rifle range. My drill instructer told me to try shooting left handed. Qualified fine after that.

My shotgunning suffers since I really can't focus my other eye while shooting.

Im 32 in April I was born with lazy eyes that were corrected through surgery. As of recent they have started to drift again. I can shoot well but prefer scopes with good eye relief.

I have double vision, vertical diplopia, thanks to a mini stroke. Rather than use a patch I taped over the right lens of my glasses. I shoot pistol crosseyed and my rifles are now safe queens.

Twins in every aspect. ;)

I just shoot left-eyed w/ pistol [including military teams in the `70s], right eyed everything else.
For [internat'l] skeet, both eyes open to pick up/track bird; barrel comes up into that bird track;
right eye takes over as left eye closes to fire.

Never much even thought about it.

I had perfect vision until about 20 years ago I attacked a jack handle with my head, and several eye surgeries later decided I had to use my left eye for shooting or quit shooting except for emergencies. Now, as soon as my pistol clears the holster, my chin automatically jumps to the pocket of my right shoulder to align my left eye with the sight, and I don't even have to think about it.

I still shotgun right handed, but at last am starting to train myself to use a rifle left-handed, and in due time may be able to switch the shotgun, too.....Joe

My right eye is the lazy eye and the vision in it is 20/250 or worse. I shoot handguns right handed and longarms left handed. I'm starting to get cataracts and am concerned about the surgery. I know 90% of people have no problems, but......if on the long shot I have trouble with the surgery I'll be walking and not shooting.

At my last eye appointment I was discussing my concern and the Doctor told me I can guarantee if you lost vision in your left eye the right would return to full sight in about six months. He said the right eye is healthy, just lazy and if forced would attain sight. I had never heard that before.

I wore a patch when I was a kid, but would just sit down and do nothing.

I have it too.I shoot handguns right handed and left eyed.
Rifles and shotguns left hand.
I wore a patch when I was a kid,and also had a device that looked kind of like
one of those things you looked through, and rotated the picture disc.
This thing had a very bright light that flashed into my right eye,for an hour each day.Neither made any difference.
The eye doctor I went to last, said nothing could be done about it.
What kind of surgery did you have done?
