So I've just about got my 20" Saiga conversion ready to roll and I'm stocking up on mags. I like the profile of the Hungarian 20 rounders, and Comm Bloc steel 30's seem to be plentiful around here. But how many is enough? This is my go-to rifle in the case of the worst, at what point is the girlfriend right when she says I have enough magazines? :D

Never!!

That's the short answer:D I've got one 40-rd mag, one 20-rd mad, and four 30-rd mags for an AK I've only got on layaway, and that's just the beginning. They're inexpensive so you might as well stock up. I'd say at least 10-20 mags is a decent amount.

Minimum? 12. 24 would be much better. All function tested in THAT rifle.

If you have 12, use 3 for rough use, 3 for serious use, 6 get squirrled away. If you have 24, it goes 6, 6, 12.

Optimum?
Whatever you want above that.

I have over 50. I think I'm approaching close to enough.

But maybe not.

ETA - just stick to ComBlock mags when you buy 'em. US-made AK47/74 mags (e.g. ProMag, National, Triple K, and so forth) are almost universally all junk.

No such thing as 'enough' or 'too many' when talking about mags. I don't have an AK but I think I'm at about 30 AR mags and still have plenty of room for more.

You can have enough only when you think 1 cubic inch of oxygen is enough to live on! I have 12) 30 rds and 2) 75 rd drums for 1 rifle. By the way, I still need more.
