Any tips on buying a spotting scope?

After going through a few spotting scopes and their accessories, I was fortunate enough to land a used Swarovski that was hugely better than any of the "cheap" scopes. Then came the issue of the tripod. Between a buddy and myself, I think we went through 6 different tripods and stands. I have opted to go with sandbags. They are more stable and transfer less vibration to the spotting scope than any tripod or stand I have used. The downside is that you are in a fixed position...which is great for looking at targets but not for scanning a given area. In general, the greater the magnification, the more stability you are going to want to have for your scope.

I agree with DubbleA, I saved and have the same set up and have the same results. Couldn't be happier! Cry once and smile everytime you use it!
