I've never used these for attracting whitetail deer. Any tips? I don't want to buy an automatic feeder.
Any tips on using corn and salt blocks for attracting deer?

Without an automatic feeder much of your corn will be wasted. The price of corn is up about 60 percent from this time next year. Salt blocks work well where there is little livestock. Wherever there are cattle there are salt blocks and the deer get their salt at the same place the cows do.

I don't know about the game laws in FL, but make sure baiting with salt blocks is legal. Baiting is illegal in many states.

I normally set up the feeder about labor day, but was rather late this year. I just put corn in it, haven't tried anything fancy like "come'r deer" or whatever it is. On years like this, it ain't real productive. We've had a TON of rain and the acorn crop is bumper. Corn lacks nourishment for 'em, they love acorns. There are acorn scented corns I've thought about trying, but haven't. Did use some apple scented once, didn't attract squat, LOL! Sure smelled good when I was dumpin' it, though.
Feeders help, but of all the deer I've killed on my place, a feeder or corn was involved in three that I can think of, the rest were moving through. But, they WILL come to it and it helps the psychology of the hunter sitting there watchin' it if nothing else. ROFL! Now that the hogs are in there big time, I'm more thinking I'll get a hog out of it soon, hopefully more, this year. Hogs will knock a feeder over for the corn in it and if you have cows around, probably need to fence in the feeder.

I believe either will get you arrested in WA state. Works, however where legal (corn probably moreso than salt).

I keep a block out for their health. I don't think it's much of a draw. I have one feeder with a camera on it that I run all year- for the last three years at least. It gets traffic, but not nearly as much as the OTHER cam that I run back in the woods at a scrape site. I put a gallon of corn out every time I change the card, which is about every three days. It gets the most action.
Where I hunt does the landowner runs feeders at every blind. Sometimes they come in when the feeder goes off, other times they ignore it.
Cardinals and coons are the most reliable, and hogs, until you shoot one, then they go nocturnal.
They are fun to fool with, but nothing is foolproof, except fools.
This is all in Northeast Texas.

I'd find an area with 3-4 white oak trees together and set up. Deer WILL be there. You don't have to buy bait. Work's already done.
I used to live in Michigan where using bait is legal. A couple of guys there told me that soaking potato peels in salt water and hanging them over a fence was better than most anything else, including sugar beets, apples, carrots, or corn.

Cannonball88, I would go to Texas Boars web site and they will show you how to make a "Pig Pipe". It is a good way to dispense corn for deer and hogs. It will also show you how to bring in piggies if you want them.

I don't know if it is legal in FL to bait game. But, if it isn't, you can still put out a salt block, corn or other feed (a blend). You just stop prior to hunting season or don't hunt over the bait. Spreading it on the ground is a bit wasteful and requires you to visit often to put out more.

My brother in law up in WVA uses a pvc pipe, capped on the bottom and cuts a hole in the side. Fills the pipe up with corn, straps it to a tree and checks on it once a week.
