Anybody else taking extra precautions for HD the next few nights?

Everyone seems to only think of trick or treeters on Halloween. What about all of the adults out having a wild time? Any time there is an increase in partying and drinking there will be more crime. DUI's, rape, fights, thefts... they all go up when everyone is having a "good time".

Be safe.

Wow, some of you guys are WAY too paranoid! Some of you sound like the "weird guy" in the neighborhood - there's always at least one...
PSST, I'll let you in on a secret: The whole world isn't out to get you.

BTW, good for you grampster!

What's wrong with you people! Buy a damn $5 bag of candy, turn on your porch light, hand out candy until it's gone, or until it gets too late - say 8 pm or so. It's good to meet some of you neighbors and their kids. I'm even gonna put out a pumpkin and I hope somebody has enough spirit to smash the sucker on the street. Stop worrying so much and live a little.

yeah, i am taking extra precautions. I got a level 3A vest on my pumpkin, and i put a orange colored lens on my surefire. Finally, I loaded my 870 with alternating loads of garlic slugs and silver slugs so no matter what type of scumbag (vampire or werewolf) knocks on my door, i'll be prepared.

Oh, I also cleaned my AR with holy water errrrr CLP tonight, just to be on the safe side.

:neener:

I parked my new car in my kid's garage a couple days ago. It's staying there until my garage gets done (probably next weekend). Some teen vandal has been bragging to his buddies on how he plans to destroy my car on Halloween night. For some reason nobody wants to tell me his name

I've always worn concealed when handing out candy. Some who come to the door are not youngsters and grown idiots begging for candy at my door causes me some concern. :scrutiny:

I'm VERY scared of ghosts and witches. I mined the driveway yesterday and tonight I'll carry the ammo cans over to the quad 50. :neener: But for some reason I don't get many trick or treaters:confused:

The only change is I swap out my HD shotgun for my paintball shotgun. Keeps those little blighters off of my lawn.

No, not particularly. Got a new CO cylinder and a fresh batch of paintballs for the Tippmann. That's my normal 'mischief night' HD weapon. Other than that, the Mrs and I are going out for dinner tonight. No worries.

I've been dipping some South African battlepack 7.62 in silver all morning, in case the were/zombie/horde show up.

RYDER...

Some who come to the door are not youngsters and grown idiots begging for candy at my door causes me some concern.

Bingo. While some found a need to make jokes about hiding in the house with the lights off, or being fearful of a threat from some 8-year-olds knocking at the door, your response indicates that you're one of the few, that understood where i was coming from in the first place.

Anyhow, for everyone here on THR, including the would-be comedians, (who really do need to keep their day jobs) have a happy & safe halloween.

Wow...

Just curious as to how many of you who are convinced that you better get "locked 'n loaded" for Halloween moreso than any other day have ever been involved in real life situations that required you to take some kind of action involving GBI or deadly force?

So, what are you planning on doing about the "grown idiots?"
Realistically, you have several choices:
1. Turn your porchlight off and don't answer the door during trick-or-treat hours.
2. Smile and hand out the candy to all the trick-or-treaters, regardless of age.
3. Give candy to the children, but not the grown idiots. Depending on how you handle it, I concede that you might be the target of some vandalism for doing so.
Frankly, though, considering the number of people about_including police_during trick-or-treat, I think you can unclench your buttocks WRT to worrying about lethal force encounters and just go with choice #1. It'll be the least stressful.

ok serious reply here.

Where I live, I dont see any increased threat level on Halloween (its the first week of classes where I kick my alert level up). I usually maintain a fairly high alert level in any case. I have a ccw and my G26 is either on me, or laying within reach. 870 is loaded with buckshot by the nightstand. If things go south in a hurry, the AR with 3 loaded mags in a tactical bag is accessible in a matter of seconds.

I'll be tactically handing out candy, and then attending a... "grown up" party.

Sheesh, some of you people are over the edge.

Depends where you live, IMO. I feel no more of a threat where I'm at in Irving, than any other day, and than any other place I've lived. Paintball gun is strictly for juvenile mischief, which I don't expect, but simply have a deterrent for. As for the day-to-day HD pistol/s, no special action...not locked and loaded, no outpost in the living room for surveillance, haven't started digging a moat.

Now, had this thread come up 5 years ago when I was living in Jersey City, NJ, the mindset would be the same but the selection of deterrents would be much different.

Just some home-loaded garlic buckshot and wooden slugs in case THE REAL dracula comes to visit, and some silver rifled slugs in case he brings his friend the wolfman :what:

Seriously, no. The cars are locked up, the doors are locked, and the cats are inside
I'll probably have my shotgun with me in the family room instead of in the bedroom , but nothing else really different

I'm in a neighborhood where we get 3-4 trickertreaters early in the evening and then the teenage troublemakers come out. we've had a few small problems over the last few years.
if anything, i'm taking some less than lethal precautions... i have a balcony off my bedroom. i'm going to have a garden hose hooked up out there for "home defense" if the little buggers get funny. i'll probably walk 2 of the dogs around the house a few times this evening also. if anything, i'll have my paintball gun handy (yes, yes... i know i could "do some damage" with it but not nearly as much as the XD .40 does).

Nope the dogs fed, the doors locked and I'll be taking the kid out for trick or treating in a couple of hours. The only extra precautions I take are to carry a 2 D cell maglight with me and giving the boy an orange chemlight to carry.

Stepped up security?

Yup. I’ve loaded my paintball gun up with glow-in-the-dark paintballs in case those punks that egged my car last year return.

It's such a shame paranoia has ruined a really fun holiday in so many places .

I can remember back in the 60's and 70's when almost every house had their porch light on and gave out candy to the kids , today and in fact for the last 15-20 years or so fewer and fewer do so .

The only real scare I ever had on a Halloween was about 7 years ago while walking with the kids . We were heading toward a house that was all decked out on a very dark street and the homes had a lot of large trees I was for the most part the only Dad out with the kids and saw a shadow sneaking out from behind a big tree headed at a group of kids with something in it's hands , all of a sudden I see and hear what it was , the guy had a chain saw and fired it up just as he was on top of the kids ! I started at him with the intention of tackling him and at about twenty feet away I could hear all the adults at the house start to laugh as the kids were screaming their heads off , he had removed the chain on it and was just scaring the daylights out of people in a Jason mask . He saw me coming out of a run and said "sorry man just having a little fun" I told him it's a good thing MO didn't have a CCW law in effect or he would be looking at a magnum pointed at his head because I didn't know it was a joke 5 seconds ago . I've since learned to relax on Halloween and have a good time and no one has gotten hurt or killed yet .

What about all of the adults out having a wild time?

Yeah, I hear there are lots of violent gangs in Sandpoint. When the lake's too cold, and the mountain's not open for skiing yet, the ne'er-do-wells terrorize the town, drink Lambic and do donuts in their Porsches.:p

So, what are you planning on doing about the "grown idiots?"

Hasn't been a problem, just a concern. I give them candy and they go away. So far.

There are a lot of recommendations here about keeping your doors and windows locked for security yet here you have front doors open in the night to strangers and believe there is no risk? That's odd.

Wow, some of you guys are WAY too paranoid!

You apparently haven't had the back window of your wife's car smashed with a hammer to the tune of about $450 ... :fire: Police and neighbors think they know who did it (punk teens from a couple of streets down) but no proof so ... what can you do?

Made sure to make enough room in the garage this year so that no car is left outside tonight.

Man Shot By Trick Or Treaters

By Ryan Duffy
First Coast News

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- It was a violent Halloween trick in the Empire Point neighborhood.

Three men wearing masks rang the bell at the house and said "trick or treat."

When 67-year-old Ronald Langley answered the door, they shot him in the face.

Ashley Robinson lives just down the street.

"I had just been opening the door with my one-and-a-half-year-old and doing the trick or treating thing," says Robinson.

Robinson says she probably handed out candy to 40 trick or treaters last night. None looked suspicious, but now she's worried.

"It's very strange. I'm surprised to hear it happened," says Robinson.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Spokesman Ken Jefferson says Langley was being careful.

"Before he opened the door, he did the right thing, looked outside and said to his wife, these kids look much bigger, and he opened the door," says Jefferson.

Langley was shot below the eye and was in good condition Wednesday. The suspects didn't steal anything and neighbors saw them drive off in a getaway car.

Police say the suspects car was a black, newer model, two or four door Nissan.

Sad,but not surprising...I'm actually surprised we don't hear more stories like this one. It's the one night a year that nobody looks twice when you walk around with a mask. I have a pistol tucked away every Halloween when I answer the door.
