where else? TN.
I was watching the History Channel earlier and there was a history of firearms show on, and they showed one of these. I have to say it one of the most obscure firearms I've ever seen. I would love to have one just for a conversation piece.

Below is a link to the page these are from, and unfortunately it is the only info I have besides what I saw on History. This site is awesome, look around for more crazy guns on there.

If you look in the eye of the hook, that is the trigger. The muzzle is at the curve of the hook. It shoots the fish as it bites.

Who's up for some fishin? Kind of gives new meaning to the whole shooting fish in a bucket phrase.

That's very cool. I've never even heard of such a thing. Unfortunately, something like that hook is probably a Class III destructive device or "other" firearm. Owning/acquiring one without the Class III FFL would be a very bad idea.

Not being a deep sea fisherman, I have doubts that was ever used as more that a Gadget or conversation piece.

What fish is supposed to be caught with a hook that big??? If you are catching large sharks would ammo contained in that thing have much effect??

50 years ago, when I first started fishing for Muskies in Northern Wisconsin, it was not uncommon to hear a gunshot as Muskie Fishermen tried to shoot a large Esox before bringing it into the boat.

Needless to say, for obvious reasons, it is now illegal.

I don't get it. Where does the bullet come out?
Would such a thing even be subject to federal gun laws? There is no way you could use something like this to resist the government.

well those were popular for use by fishermen using handlines in the north east seaboard of america. flounder and cod for example were main recievers of these hooks. fish bite down on hook, man pulls on line and fired the cartridge. the bullet comes out of the barrel right where it bends to form the hook.

If actually used for fishing how is the line attached without firing the hook?

looks to be more novelty than anything, but it could have a 15 lb trigger mechanism witht the fish that would be able to get that hook in their mouth. The trigger would still be pulled easily by the fight but not so easily by manipulating the hook by hand...

doesnt make it a good idea.

Fair enough, would it require a stamp?

It still would have to meet the requirement of the NFA, so I would guess that it would. The C&R designation doesn't change it's status, it just allows FFL03s to acquire them out of State or dispose to other licensees, etc.

It would probably fall into the AOW category with a $5 transfer fee, but somehow I can't imagine a U.S. Attorney taking the case to court. The laughter would drown him out when he tried to explain how terrorists could kill millions with a fishhook.
