Anybody Ever Use a Taurus Gaucho with Black Powder?

I came across one of these little beauties the other day in one of my favorite haunts. They've got two, one is brushed stainless which I'm not impressed by. The other is blued and purdy!!

I'm just wondering if they will eat real powder or if you have to use that new smokeless stuff to get 'em to work properly?

Can't speak to the Taurus but I have a Ruger new model Vaquero in 45. My usual load is 8 grs Unique and a 255 gr. LSWC cast bullet. But I really enjoy loading it with 25 grs (by volume) of 3F Goex, a lubed felt wad and the same primer and bullet. Haven't tried it past 25 yards but it was plenty accurate that far. (Keep in mind that I'm doing the shooting.) :eek:

I do clean the fired cases after decapping. I let them soak in warm soapy water while cleaning the gun then use a 45 caliber brush to get the insides. Rinse in hot water and let them air dry. Same as with 45-70s. I keep the BP cases separted from the smokeless, although that may not be necessary.

The looks thing is a double edged sword. I have a Uberti Schofield that "LOOKS" like a Smith & Wesson, but shooting more than six BP 44-40's through it will lock it up.

The blueing and case hardening on the one that I saw was outstanding. The action was smooth as silk as well. I'm not about to plunk own $399 until I KNOW that this thing will eat Black Powder, I've already got one that I have to load smokeless in and I don't want to add another.
 
Generally, the only thing that may be required would be to increase the barrel/cylinder gap. If it is real tight, BP fouling will bind the cylinder pretty quickly. Make it 6-8 thousandths. You might also want to get the forcing cone cut to 11 degrees if it isn't already. That helps keep fouling away from the cylinder face as well as improving accuracy.
