Not talking about Model 7's, or 600 or 660, but a true Model 700 factory carbine? I can't find anything about them on Google, but a gun shop in PA has two in stock, one .243 and one .30-06. Have pressed checkering, guessing they date from the 70's. Barrels don't appear shortened, have iron sights, all the standard Remington factory script on barrel, but don't say "carbine" on them. They want about $1K each. If you have actual info, please share, thanks!

I know they offered 20" versions at one time. Never seen or handled one, but chances are good they are original. No way I'd pay anywhere near $1K for one unless I knew I could flip it at a profit in a short time. They might be worth it, but not to me if I planned on using it. I can pick up a standard 22" gun of that vintage for around $300 and have it cut if I wanted something to use.

I found this

http://www.700rifle.com/forum/50-ge...old-remington-700-30-06-carbine-question.html

It is a 3 year old thread on another forum. One of the posts reads.

The Carbine model 700 ADL started production in 1962 according to my old Blue Book. It had a 20 inch barrel and is valued 20 % higher than standard models.

Around 20% above that of a standard rifle seems reasonable to me, but collectors often pay crazy prices.

As mentioned in the above thread, the date of manufacture can be determined from the date code on the barrel.

Look it up here

There have been a few 'Youth' models over the years. Just a regular 700 with a shorter stock and barrel, no special markings.

Thanks everyone, and jmr40 I believe you hit the nail on the head. I think they just offered an optional 20" barrel and didn't consider it a "carbine' per se, so didn't put carbine on the barrel like they did with the 760, 742, etc., which had barrels shorter than 20".

Not worth $1K to me either, but this place specializes in quality vintage and collector grade guns, and has some cool stuff for sure. Thanks again :)

Shuman's in Newville, PA. No website that I am aware of, they don't operate that way. They are well known in collector circles, and have celeb clients in music and show business. I've bought a few guns there, but most of the stuff I can't afford.

I briefly owned a 700BDL 6mm Rem with 20" barrel.
Bought second hand, I don't know if it was officially a "carbine", it was not marked as such on the gun.

Probably would have been a good deer rifle but it was short and light and loud and not particularly accurate and therefore not much of a target or varmint rifle.

They made a 700 mountain rifle. Very trim and light nicely finished carbine. Had one in the early nineties. Kicked like a mule in 30-06. It was a high level of finish BDL or better.
