If you are, If you get on AIM please let me know so I can send you some links to llok over a little piece of land. Even if you don't get on AIM please let me know.

What do you mean "good with aerial photos?" I studied GIS, actually had it as my minor in college. Can you post more specific questions and the photos here in this thread?

There are many factors that play into what you want to do. Again, I might have a better idea if you can post examples of your photos.

Typically, if you want to compare vegetative cover you want images taken in the infrared range of the light spectrum. The different IR signatures show up well.

If you are just looking at something using Google Maps it can be more difficult. Generally speaking, differentiating between conifers, hardwoods, and grasses is fairly straightforward. But that is also dependent on the scale and resolution of the image.

If you've got a decent quality image what you want to do shouldn't be too difficult. I'm not entirely familiar with how food plots are laid out, but if the crop is planted in rows that can usually be seen with decent resolution; but if the food plot is put down just by scattering seed then it may be difficult to tell from regular grasses unless there are areas in the photo to compare to. Typically, though, planted crops look more homogeneous where a natural prairie might have more variation as they tend to not be monocultures.

That's why I asked if you may have had AIM so I could discuss where to look, I will post a link as close as I can get it without you having to mover around too much.

That should put you at Westover Rd which is a right turn off of Pocosin, mover the map a little to the right and your birdseye view will be able to work, after that you will see a big patch of what i suppose is dirt, move the map to the right some more, and you will see dark green inside of some tall gray trees, I would like to know what you think that is.

If I understand properly, you're talking about the area south-southwest of the intersection of Pocosin Rd. and Annie Ln.

Initially, I'd say the size of that green cover is indicative of bushes or small trees, not grasses. When I think of "food plot" I think of clover or something like that, but I don't plant food plots to attract wildlife so maybe I'm wrong on that point.

In general, I'd be inclined to think that area is a plantation, maybe a tree farm. My amateur's guess is tree plantation or logging operation.

Looks like it's only about a half hour's drive from you, you might have better luck taking a little drive on the weekend and bringing some binoculars.

Is that property public or private?

I've been there, but not actually in that part, it look like some clearings in a spot that wouldn't shot up on birds eye, but you have the right spot.

I'm going to go with tree plantation.

I would almost think vineyard, but according to the scale bar on the Bing map the "windrows" (for lack of a better term, the "lines" running through that area) are approximately 50 yards or so apart. Plus, it looks like there's something planted amongst them. The layout doesn't look to me like a traditional farm layout. Given the access roads and the surrounding cover, looks like a continual operation.

Looks to me like it's entirely too extensive to be a food plot just to attract deer or other game, but I could be wrong. But parts of that area look quite similar to my family's own tree farm.

Thanks man, can you look at one more place for me? i know for a fact this place has food plots. I thought that those may have been trees on the map you just looked at, but i wasn't quite sure. Do you also know what funnels look like on a aerial map? U really appreciate the help.
