According to Colt's Commercial Firearms Website, the Python and Anaconda revolvers are currently in production. They were discontinued for awhile, weren't they?

Anyways, my new Gov't Model is top-notch quality wise, so I was wondering if anybody had either of these nice looking revolvers that they bought recently.

If not, has anybody heard anything about the quality of the new Colt revolvers?

They certainly look nice.

I've looked long and hard at three new stainless steel Pythons in the past year. All were priced in the $1,100 range. All three had extremely heavy single action pulls and excruciatingly heavy double action pulls. The double action stacking that's normal with Colt double action revolvers was more pronounced than ever. All three Pythons had visible tool marks. All three finishes were uneven and rough in spots, though one was smoother than the others. Colt's new plywood Python stocks are less awful than their predecessors, but still didn't make a very good impression on me.

Frankly, I don't think these new Pythons are any better than Rugers, and in fact, I've seen Ruger cowboy-style guns that were far better finished.

I'll stick with real Pythons, thanks all the same.

Would it be surprising if a Python II was issued and featured the Trooper lockwork? It may just come to that.

the was no difference between the lockwork of the "original trooper" and the python

i'm assumming he was refering to the latest tropers (mk III?) which has a simplified lockwork powered by a coil spring rather than a leaf spring

In a sense they did. They called it the King Cobra.

Probably the closest to a true "Python II" was the limited production Colt Boa, made for a distributor.
This was basically a Trooper V/King Cobra with a Python barrel and blue job.

freedom arms baby!

If I was in the market for a $1000 revolver it would be a feeedom arms single action.
colt and smith are WAAAAYYYYYY overpriced imho.

I'd prefer something else if I was going to spend over a grand on a revolver. Don't get me wrong, I love my Python, but I never would have spent that much or it-and arguably it is better than the new generation.

The Colt Python had leaf springs but it's more than leaf springs. The parts had to be perfectly synchronized like a watch before the action works smoothly. The newer Troopers feature a smooth, dependable action but it's very much like a S&W or Ruger Security Six in the way it worked. This isn't a criticism but an observation.

Do a search at http://www.thefiringline.com in the Smithy forum and you'll find my instructions on disassembling the Python action. Do a search here @ THR and you'll find my instructions for disassembling the S&W. If you can get the parts diagram, you'll see how the two are dissimilar. The Trooper is more akin to S&W than it is to the older Python.
