My understanding is that the general reason why people discount this particular model is because of the adjustable sights with the LPA cut. Has anybody tried to use it for CCW? Do the limited options for fixed rear sights get the job done adequately?

I'm thinking of setting mine up for CCW. I currently carry a Glock 19, which I like well enough, but I wouldn't mind running the RO during the winter and such. Otherwise, I may save up and buy a Loaded or TLE II in the future, but it may be a while until I have the $750+ to buy it.

Thanks!

I occasionally carry mine in rotation with other 1911s. I initially found the large, adjustable rear sight to be uncomfortable and likely to snag on cover garment so it went off to SA for the Harrison(?) fixed sights. I seem to recall it was about $110.00 with return shipping. Love it now, just had it at the range on Monday.

Generally, high-protruding, sharp-cornered rear sights are undesirable for concealed carry. They can poke or prod you, wear holes in or snag on clothing or cut your hand if you grab a handful of slide in a hurry. Fixed sights with the corners rounded a little are a lot more comfortable to carry.

Thanks for the responses. Does anybody have any experiences with the Harrison Rear Tritium sight? Would swapping out the rear adjustable sight with this make it as good a candidate for CCW as a Kimber TLE, Springfield Loaded / TRP, etc.?

Don't get me wrong, target sights are fine for their intended use, shooting at paper targets. Just not for gunfighting. :)

Only the sight maker and/or your gunsmith can make this determination, but the slide cut necessary to make the target sight sit low might cause problems with combat sights.

I don't have any experience with the Harrison sight, but I think it would work fine.

When the Range Officer came out, it was the instant "must have 1911". I'm sure it really is a nice gun, but so many overlooked those adjustable sights on the pistol. I spent a lot of posts trying to point it out to potential owners, but since there are a couple of fixed sight options available most of the "lovers" went right ahead. While the Harrison and 10-8 sights are most likely solid and should work well, only you can decide if the look good.

I would also have a pro install them, so that is another expense to consider.

If you already own the RO, swapping out sights is certainly the cheapest route. If not I would look for one that already has combat sights on an officers size.

As for the TRP. I have no issues CCWing a 5" 1911. However many balk at the thought and all you can do is try it and see. I went through many many guns till I found the perfect setup for me. which included holsters, guns, belts.
