I have tried but the flip and unpredictable trigger reset always gets the better of me..Someone suggested that maybe the grip did not fit me, I disagree and in fact feel the gun points well for me..

Compared to the G19 and the Beretta it is a snail!!

3 shots in 1 second is the best I ever did... don't ask about the group...

I have shot the usp's and I was not able to get off nearly as many rounds off. I tried a quick double tap with one and I short stroked the trigger and it was not a quick double tap. Part of the, well I guess problem, is the trigger reset is longer than the glocks and 1911s. I am sure with some new springs you could shoot quicker.

I could never shoot mine fast, the 45C flipped too much for me. I saw a guy at skul shoot an Expert pretty fast. We weren't far from the target but his groups looked pretty good. Then most guys can shoot their 45s faster than I can shoot my 9, but I'm kinda slow on the doubletaps....

i guess i can shoot my .40/c relatively fast for a combat gun. i practice the failure drill. double tap to the chest and one to the head. i've been practicing that way with the same gun for about 4 years now. i can usaully draw, and get the first 2 in COM and the one in the head inside of two seconds.

i think just about anyone can be fast with just about any gun as long as you practice, practice, practice. then practice some more. i firmly believe that forming muscle memory from lots of repatition is extrememly important. thats why i carry one and only one gun in the same holster in the same position all the time. just my opinion though.

its my observation that the USP does not flip any more than a Glock or similarly constructed pistol. its all in what you are used to. if you use the USP enough, it (atcually YOU) will become faster and faster. (with it) and of course accuarcy comes from more practice too.

it depends if you are talking about just unloading a magazine or if you want to have a respectable group. either way i cant shoot my USP any faster than any of my other pistols, but i wouldn't say it is any slower to cycle either.

i installed a match trigger in my USP just recently, it made the biggest difference in the reset and also the SA pull. the next step is going to be to send it off to Bruce Grey for one of his trigger jobs. after all the work is done it should have a sweet trigger.

There is nothing wrong with the USP's trigger. So it takes a fraction of an inch longer to reset. I think there is WAY to much emphasis on speed. Do I double tap faster with a 1911, yeah. Does it matter? No. There is a such thing as fast enough (for practical purposes anyway). I did talk to Bruce Grey about working on my trigger before I parted with my USP. He is a gentleman and all around good guy in addition to being a top drawer pistolsmith and competative shooter.

I'd rather be smooth than fast. Firing to a beat or rhythm is just sweet to my ears...

That said, i think the trick is to have a rock-solid two handed grip so that the weapon won't flip like a noodle, which slows the subsequent firing process. If I'm very conscious of my push-pull grip, with a force that could lift, say a 12-15 lb weight if I were to hang one at the tip of the gun, i can let off a lot of rounds in a jiffy... how fast and accurate, I haven't tested yet  ;)

My buddy's sig 228 has a SWEET trigger. I i was able to empty a 15 round magazine into the body of a FBI shillouette in 3 or 4 seconds at 5 or 7 yards (i forget which. I can do that with my taurus pt92 as well, more accurately too due to the pistols weight and recoil reduction modification. (recoiling guide rod, very cool, makes it feel like light target loads with +p, barely anything with regular ball ammo). I can put all 15 shots in the chest at 7 yards in around 4 seconds.

I have practiced mith my USPc .45, and I can shoot it fairly fast, but any of my nines, and also my star PD (.45) can beat it fairly easily.
The whole point of a .45 is not needing to empty the mag in the first place.
It wouldn't be my first choice for gaming, but I wouldn't be in last place even if I did.
It is versatile, the muzzle flips up, and comes right back down, the slide operates smoothly, and for reliability, it can't be beat.
Mine has never had a malfunction of any type.
None at all.
Compact .45s aren't the best platform for gaming for mere mortals.
But they make a heck of a carry gun.

clubsoda22 you are rocking!! :)

Speed is very important in our situation here, I daresay more so than accuracy because we will tolerate less than match grade accuracy but we want no slouch. This is because our criminals carry machine guns and assualt rifles. So you are outgunned before you are even attacked. So you want to fire your shot(s) as quickly as possible to COM, "hit them hard, hit them fast". Well we are allowed up to 9mm so there is no hitting hard, so we might as well try for fast.

Glocks are probably the most sought after handguns in Jamaica because of their simplicity of operations and their speed. Numerous self defense encounters that has received national media coverage has entrenched the Glock in local folklore. One recent event saw a Security guard attacked by 3 heavily-armed gunmen who he was able to outshoot with his Glock 17- he killed 1, wounded 2. Unfortunately he was shot by a gunman who he did not see whilst thinking that the fight was over and reloading; he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital (360 degree assessment was not done).

:(

It simply boils down to practice and muscle memory (also, see my sig line). I can fire my 45 USPs, one with the Bruce Gray trigger and other two with factory triggers very fast and very accurate (full mag rapid fire at 10 to 15 yards, most in black of standard B8 target). I can do this much faster and more importantly, more accurately with a USP than a 1911, Beretta, Sig or Glock ONLY because I spend most of my time with my USPs. So this doesn't make the USP any better (or worse) than the others, its just what I spend most of my range time with.

If you can't do it with a particular handgun, quit whining and pointing fingers at inanimate objects, and practice until you can.

The grip may fit you the way you're currently holding it, but if you modify your hold, it may not fit as well as you thought. I just learned this last weekend after take Matt Burkett's Speed Skills course. With some modifications to my grip (hold) and stance I am able to shoot faster and more accurately - but its not quite as comfortable as it was before. Maybe it'll just take some getting used too... or maybe I need to take a dremel tool to my beloved USP. ;)

"If you can't do it with a particular handgun, quit whining and pointing fingers at inanimate objects, and practice until you can."

Larry, a question asked is not whining...:scrutiny:

As to practice I can take up other guns and rapid fire also, so practice is not the problem..

maybe as mpthole said the grip is not the best! By the way I know that grip that Matt teaches and it is uncomfortable but I hear effective, I will try on the USP and see how it helps!

Oh, OK, I must have misunderstood when you said, "Compared to the G19 and the Beretta it is a snail!!".

Okay, Mpthole, I tried the grip (the one where your weak hand is locked out and the wrist is arched at a sharp angle, thumbs forward, no index finger on trigger guard) and it did settle the pistol a bit; I however found it a bit slow to work with I guess I had too much tension in the grip. I got more benefit shooting the HK like this than with the Glock or Beretta which were already comparatively flatter shooters.

Will work on it and see how far I can take it..I think the USP is a great pistol but that was always my irk with it!!

Island Beretta: I'm finding that the more I use it the more comfortable it becomes. Practice, practice, practice. :) A match quality trigger would probably help too, but I like my "combat" guns to be stock.

Best of luck to you.
