I am really interested in the Ruger Redhawk in 45 colt with the 4" barrel. I already load for 45lc in my blackhawk and vaquero. I lime the ability to load a little "hotter" with these guns. I assume you can shoot "Ruger only" loads with these Redhawks. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am sure a few people on here have one and was wondering how you liked them.

Also has anyone seen these for sale on a consistent basis or know where to get one? I have seen a couple every now and then on gunbroker but prefer to get one from a local or Internet store.

What should the going rate for a new one cost? Why are theses so hard to find? Low demand so low production or high demand and backorder?

Yes the Redhawk will handle "Ruger only" loads.

Likely you can ask your local gunatorium to order one for you. Visit the next gun show. Order one direct from Ruger.

You can also go top the Ruger forum itself and ask there. On that forum in the classified section you can list a WTB (wanted to buy) ad for one. You can do the same at most other gun forums.

There are a good many ways to acquire a gun that has been in continual production for a few decades now.

Saw one in my local Guns & Ammo store about a year ago. Didn't have the moolah to get it at that time and haven't seen one since. If you're anywhere near Memphis you might want to call the one there (G&A) and see if they have one. I wouldn't mind the .44 magnum version, but I already have several .45 Colts and would have liked to add that one.

If I am not mistaken it has only been in production for about 5 years not several decades. I do not believe used ones are any easier to come by than the new ones

I have a 4 inch Redhawk in 45 Colt, stainless. Nice gun, heavy, tame recoil and yes it will shoot the big Ruger only loads. Chamber throats are .4515 from Ruger so I dont think I will have them touched. Accurate enough for me as is. I have only put 200 rounds through it so far.

You may be right. The Redhawk was introduced back in 1979 and chambered in 44 Mag and in '84 or so it was offered in .41 Mag and .357. But only a few years back (5 or 6) in .45 Colt. About the same with the Super Redhawk though I believe that was offered in 454 Casull and 45 Colt a bit earlier. But I'm going by memory here.

In any event I've seen two out here in the last few months second hand. Where I suggested the op asks still stands.

I think his point was that the 4" models are a relatively recent addition to the lineup whereas .44mag, .45LC, and .357mag (in limited numbers) were produced in the 5.5" and 7.5" bbls for many years.

Just one addition the actual barrel length is 4.2 inches to allow them to be imported to Canada.

Yep the one I want is the 4.2" (you are right harvester) and those are super rare.

I have a 4.2" in .45 Colt and love it. I bought mine used in like new condition for $675 delivered. My only complaint is the grips. I don't like the Hogue's much. I switched them for Pachmayrs, which I am still not totally satisfied with.

I tried all the after market grips with little success. A guy in the Ruger forum told me about the Butler Creek/Uncle Mikes and I'm really impressed. The back strap is covered, but they're not overly big.

There's one for sale at my local range. Been there for months now, as the asking price is over $1000 and the owner won't budge. I'd already have taken it home if the price was anywhere reasonable...

I have one. Not for sale. Bought it soon after it was announced at my favorite LGS. He had it at a gun show, but I didn't jump. Still had it the next week so I drove over and bought it. Got it for $609+tax.

It's the only one I've ever seen around here.

I had been looking for a 7.5" barreled one for nearly 6 years on and off, and all I could find were the 4.2 or 5" ones. Just when I finally decided I wasn't going to find one and was looking for the shorter version to convert, low and behold I hit the jackpot on the 7.5" one. This was last year mid Sept. Most of the ones I saw then were running mid $600's and up.

Don't give up, they are out there just waiting for the proper time and situation to pop up.

Now if I could be so lucky as to find the 7.5" .357 in the same condition, for around the $650 I paid for the 45 Colt I would have the complete set.

No, I haven't seen a 45 Colt version.
But I certainly have seen the 44 Mag version :D
Ruger wood grips & HI-Viz sight added for perfection.

I worked out a deal on a 7.5" Redhawk Hunter (blue), then the seller backed out and traded with someone else. :banghead:

Didn't even have the decency to allow me to counter.
