Many said they have restocked with ARs and ammo prices are back to normal.

As of last week, no 9mm, no .45ACP, no .22... At Academy here. BassPro is 90 miles away, and the interweb says they have some .45 at slightly inflated prices.

Last week my Bass Pro was wiped out of pistol ammo, unless you count the .460, .500 and the three boxes of .38 Special.

Not at my local Academy stores. Ammo is still up $1.00 (no complaints considering). No ARs. They have replenished the handgun stock. They had an XDS 45 the other day for $550. I am kicking myself for not getting it. I have been able to pick up 5.56, 9mm, and .22. They get regular shipments of .40, .45. and .308.

An Academy just opened in my mom's town. They had a lot of rifle and shotgun ammo. Had a special on buckshot, 100 rounds for $79. No Ar's though.

Had never been to Academy before. Needless to say, I was impressed.

I routinely visit several academy's in the Houston area. Ammo gets wiped out within hours of it being put out. I have seen some 7.62 and 45 last through until the next day, but that is about it. Haven't been to bass pro or gander mountain in awhile as the locations are less than ideal to "swing by", plus I have memorized the shipping schedule of several academy stores at this point. Tuesday and Wednesday I am at the Academy in Baytown. Friday I'm at the store on I-10 at Uvalde. Saturday I'm up early at the Academy at 290 and 34th, followed by a stop at a couple of other Academy's around town and Carter's Country on Katy Freeway (for .22 at inflated prices). If anyone wants to have an impromptu THR meet-up one morning, send me a PM. I'll bring donuts, you bring coffee.

AR's are a different story though... I think if you want a rifle, they aren't tough to come by. Now, it may take a week of camping out at various Academy locations (where you already have the shipping schedule memorized), but I think you'll be able to get a rifle. I have been in line for ammo 3-4 days a week for the last couple of months, and I could have bought 4-5 rifles by now, including a DPMS AR-10 (that was tempting!). I've seen the first 5+ people in line pass on rifles. I don't know how long they stick around at the gun counter though. I think Academy's prices on their rifles have gone up, but that is likely due to increasing costs at the distributer(s) (pure speculation on my part). However, I think their price increases on AR's are on the order of $50-$100.

Yeah, Academy is awesome. Wait until all this crap calms down in the next 6-12 months. Academy stores during sane gun times are great. The selection of ammo is pretty impressive in my opinion. Lots of different rifle calibers. Their gun selection is pretty good for what it is. They don't have anything really special, but cover their bases with the bread and butter like S&W, Ruger, Beretta, Springfield, Taurus, Bersa, etc. I bought my first pistol, a Beretta 92FS from Academy. Since then, I've bought a few rifles and a browning buckmark from Academy stores. I always shop there first because they consistently have the best prices in the Houston area. Customer service can be hit or miss, but I've gotten to know several of the gun counter employees at this point, and if one of people I know isn't working the counter, I generally don't bother asking any questions.

I was at my local Bass Pro (Denver) about a week a go. There were no ARs that I could see. The ammunition shelves were empty, too. The handgun cases had some Taurus Judges, and 1 over-priced Kimber ($1650). I was at a training class yesterday, and a fellow attendee told me that he was there the night before, and the situation was the same, but the one Kimber left had been sold.

Our local Academy's got an unexpected Sat. delivery so I decided to horde some ammo. Also here are the prices on the ammo that caught my interest.

Remington 9mm 115 grain 100 round box sold for $27.99

Remington 40s&w 165 grain 50 round box sold for $19.99

Winchester 230 grain fmj 100 round box sold for $41.99

Remington 40 s&w 180 grain 100 round box sold for $37.99

Blazer 115 grain 50 round box sold for $13.99

I got my 3 boxes, one 9mm, one 40s&w and one 45acp.

Still very little change at Academy in Alpharetta, GA.

LOTs of shotgun ammo.... just about anything you want. A LITTLE rifle ammo, and nothing in more popular calibers.

At my Academy in SC, no AR's and ammo is limited to 1 box per caliber per day/3 box max. They have had independence .223 for $11.99/20

Is the point of this thread to get an anecdotal report from every Academy and Bass Pro in the country? :) If so, this is going to be a really long thread!

My Academy is rationing ammunition at the customer service desk up front. If it is a popular caliber that people have been panic buying, they're only allowing one box of each caliber per customer. If you want lots of ammo bring a couple of friends and pay seperately.

Well, unless the distribution manager for academy drops in to this thread, all we have is one-off anecdotal evidence.

Up and down

Academy gets random shipments. I went there this morning and watched 15 people stand in the cold for 20 minutes and who knows how long they were there before I arrived. All that wait for the usual Independence 5.56 for $9.99, some .308 Razorback, some .308 from Remington, and about 8 boxes of 7.62x54r. Four choices. Last week they got in a ton of stuff in .22, 9mm, .40, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62x39/51/54r, .308. Go figure.

They just received 3 AR's that no one was buying...kinda weird. They also had a $10k .50-cal bolt action rifle on display.

And then there was this one drum at the front entrance. Federal 7.62x51 (.308) for $6,500! There are "only" 7,500 rounds in that drum for that much money. $.87/round isn't terrible for .308 I guess...if you want to drop $6,500 all at once. At one time Academy had 12,000-round drums of Federal .223 for $5k.

Come to think of it, this was among the strangest visits to Academy I have had yet.

Unless indoor ranges were able to locate a fair share, do CCW classes not have many students right now?

My class was a month ago and it was full. There were several .22s though. Also, people were asking how many rounds they would have to shoot because they had less than a full box.

Our Academy has actually been ok. Of course they sell out quickly when they get it in, but I haven't noticed any raising of prices.
One large store I'll give a plug to also, I was in Sportsman's Warehouse in Memphis over the weekend and all of their stuff is normal prices. We picked up 2 pounds of Bullseye, and 1 pound of Unique for $18.99 each. Also a pound of Ramshot Magnum for $22.99. Been a while since we've found any powder, and we were pleasantly surprised to find it at normal pricing. Didn't have any primers though. :(
