I tried to pick up a used 2nd Gen G17 with 1 17 rounder today (traded my PT92 for it). The shop couldn't get through to make the background check. Anyone else have this problem?

Odd....

BTW, my Texas CHL eliminates the need for the NICS background check... It's one of the CHL's best features! :D

I did send off the money order for another pistol today, but it will likely be next week before it arrives... Anticipation!

i dont' know where the nics offices are located but i'd say they're probally burried in ice, or floating .... if on the east coast.....

I think yesterdaysyouth is right. The non-essential Fed gov't (say, isn't that redundant?) was closed today and I believe Quantico was also. Not sure about tomorrow, the 19th.

It may have been the local telephone service then. If it happens again tomorrow, I'm going to hand the nice fellow behind the counter my cell phone, and have him try that.

My KY CCDW doesn't allow me to by-pass the Federal Check, for some reason.

Yea, Got a little Backup gun

Kind of a Crapshoot, as my new acquesition is the oft-maligned AMT Backup in .380:rolleyes:
It was cheap, it's small, and it's Stainless = what I need for CCW in hot weather.
My experiences with one of these was not like the horror stories I've been reading about recently in these forums - it shot OK at close range and while it was 'jumpy', it did'nt chew up my hand or malfunction.
Hopefully this specemin will behave itself as well:scrutiny:
We shall see... BTW: Paperwork on this little rascal took over an hour and required 3 seperate forms of ID... The only time I've ever had a dealer repeatedly APOLAGIZE during a transaction:rolleyes:
California just keeps getting Sillier every year:banghead: :barf:

My purchase is in limbo. I sent a money order out by Airborne on Friday, and it is stuck in Philadelpia at the Airborne depot because of the weather. They told me they hope to get it out and delivered on Wednesday. :(

The more I think about it the more sure I am that it was our local phone service causing the problems. When he dialed the phone he kept getting a message that said, "All ciruits are busy. Try again later." He put the speaker phone on so that I could hear it. I waited around for 2-3 hours, then gave up. I'm going to stop by in the morning and see what happens.

I went in to put my money down and ordered my BUG , a para carry 6-45 lda .. and some mags .plus 2 high caps for my 14-45 , 2 nickels for the new member of the coonan family , total cost with tax ah hum , 1100 bucks , was doing good till the hi caps  , it should be here by the end of the wait period (3 days ) then I have to wait for my gov't savings plan ( Irs Refund ) to be deposited . :uhoh:

Picked up another SIG on Saturday. The guy in front of me at my local shop, who has never had any probs with delays, got delayed.

A minute later, when it was my turn to do the call, I had no probs.

"All ciruits are busy. Try again later."

If he's still getting that tomorrow he should report it to his provider.

Dang Kentuckians, the lady plugging in all the calls can only do so many at once!

Don't talk about my aunt Sarah like that!:D

I stopped by today and everything was working fine. I got my Glock and my 19 round mag, so I'm happy.

I finally got the saiga shotgun I have been looking at foa months ordered today. Should be here next week. Man UPS is slow. CCW eliminates the $15.00 charge and the background check.

How come some CCWs can be used to by-pass the background check, and others can't? Doesn't make much sense really.

Congrats on the new toy.

Here's a pic of my new (old) pistol.

I actually paid for a gun about 3 weeks ago, but since it was a consignment I had to wait 30 days before I cuold pick it up. I went back to the shop today and just did the DROS. It will be in my hands March 2nd. :D

Annnd, since it's a private party transfer, the "one gun a month" law doesn't apply to me. I'm eyeing a CZ75B right now.

I did have a minor hiccup in that he couldn't find the birthdate of the consignee, but after a few minutes of searching, all was all right.

No, but next week...

...I plan on conducting another transfer from out-of-state via my local FFL.

Found a very good deal on a Beretta 96 Compact Inox that none of the local shops I deal with can touch. Sooo, pay the man, get the FFL copy and off it goes.

BLiTzNick,

Welcome to the Glock brotherhood. Drop on over to Glock Talk and chew the fat with the rest of the tupperware crowd(hey, I can say that, I've got a G20).

nvrquit,

I got those parts for the PT92, and they worked OK, so I put the grips and safety spring back on it and got rid of it ASAP.

I've "chewed the fat" on GlockTalk quite a bit over the last few years.
