Below the Manson-Nixon line in Virginia...
In which one of their rising star reporters is revealed to have made dozens of errors, and fabricated dozens of stories?

The Times spent several hundred column inches this past Sunday recounting the misdeeds of this individual, as well as the Time's failings in correcting the situation even though the reporter was under a lot of suspicion.

He's not the first, either.

Just another indication of why the media shouldn't be trusted...

NYT's management is covering its keester. Loose cannon, unsupervised, etc. Fact is the joker received preferential treatment all the way up the ladder to the top guy. He was a crook, liar, con artist, etc and he was considered the best the NYT had.

I agree.
The only reason the NYT took a stab a correcting the record is because the alternative media is cutting its throat.
I never could trust establishment papers.

What can I do with the Noo Yawk Times ? ? ? ?

Bird cage liner
Fish Wrap
Run through shredder for gerbil/hampster bedding
New filler mats for my indoor Official Daisy Red Ryder Rifle Range
Soak several Sunday editions for ballistic testing

More uses ? ? (in my best Ben Stein voice) "Anyone? Anyone?"

This is probably why they are pressing the FCC to change rules and allow only a few, selected groups to own and control all of the Media Outlets in the various markets.

Sure cuts down on the necessity of explaining why you have been caught with your pants down.

I apply the "Iceberg Analogy" when I hear things like this. Just as nine-tenths of an iceberg is invisible underwater, I figure for each scandal we hear about, there are nine (or more!) equally bad or worse things going on behind the scenes that will always be kept secret.

Burn baby... burn.

Tip of the iceberg indeed.

Drudge is now reporting that at least two other reporters at the Times are now under editorial investigation... www.drudgereport.com

Couldn't have happened to a nicer paper... :D With dropping circulation, and newspapers forced to give away thier content for almost free compared to their paper ad rates on the Internet, media fragmentation with cable and talk radio...

Mr. Safire's impassioned "It's not a liberal media machine, honest!" defense notwithstanding, presumably to protect his own cush job as token conservative, the liberal media machine is grinding to a halt, and the Times scandal is a bigger clunk of a slipped gear.

Faustian socialist dogma will have a much harder time promugating itself even in a media market that averages out to politically neutral, much less conservative.

The Times is a liberal rag spewing forth tripe not fit for human consumption. They lost all credibility years ago. I wouldn't use it to line my bird-cage. :barf:
