After getting out of the Army I got into EBRs. I started with an AK variant and have had three of them, all of which got sold for some reason or another.
I have owned FAL's, SKS's, and I now own an AR-15 as well.
After having had all of these, I am starting to wonder if the AK didn't do what I needed done better than anything else. I am thinking about getting another one and using it to replace one or maybe two of the guns I have now.

Has anyone else ever done something like this?

Started out a big fan of the plastic fantastic.

Now all of my pistols are steel frame, and a decent selection of them were designed several generations before I was born.

trade you my SAR-1 for your AR and FAL:neener:

I sold all my polymer, all my ARs, and my one alloy.

I have steel pistols and revolvers now. They feel better to me.
I wouldn't trade my basic black Government Model for ten Glocks, five Sigs, and half a dozen HKs.

Oh, and you can keep you "airweight" revolvers, too.

I like the FAL but it is a little too big and they seem to require a lot of maintenance. Every time I pull the damn thing out, whether I have shot it in the last six months or not, there is rust in the gas tube. I don't understand why but this doesn't seem to happen with the SKS (eventhough it almost never gets cleaned) and I only ever found rust in the gas tube of an AK once.
The AR is more accurate than the AKs I had (except the VEPR) but it has this irritating habit of occassionally spraying a little gas back through the charging handle slot and into my nose and eyes. Never had that with an AK either.

I think the AR may go to pay for another AK. Too bad I have to sell off all that XM193 but it doesn't seem to make sense to get any caliber other than 7.62 in an AK when you consider all the mags and parts around for them.

I hate it when I do this.

I do that all the time. I started out on 1911s, then went to SIG, then back to 1911. Went to wheelguns, then back to 1911s. Went to try Glock, then back to 1911. Went to Beretta, then back to 1911s. etc etc....

I'm hopeless....

I don't feel as bad now that I see that I am not the only one who does stuff like this.

Never left the circle to speak of.

Never owned any ARs AKs FALs or anything. Only polymer rifle I ever owned were Rem Nylon 66's , brown Stock, Blued receivers and barrels and feed thru the buttstock.
I like this Nylon 66 and would take more.

All my rifles other than that 66, blue and wood, and at 51 I still do not own a scope or any optics for a long gun. And my eyes are not what they once were.
Lever Actions, Bolt guns and the few semis such as Marlin 60's - iron sights.

Shotguns, yeah well pretty well known my druthers on them.

I still use the same handgun platforms I chose when the earth was flat.

I own one Polymer handgun, most likely be my last one. My "niche gun" a Keltec P-11. Just a plastic double action revolver is all it is.

I bought this one after being asked to T&E it, fills a "niche" so a nice steel gun does not have to fill that 'niche'.

Same Calibers all these years. Never warmed up to the .40 in a handgun, never will.

Shotguns...I use all 4 gauges , my feelings about 28 ga are well known. What some may not know, I have had a lot of fun shooting 24 and 32 ga shotguns, especially the 32, I guess that is my 'exotic' fun gun deal.

I keep going backwards some say, my next steps are learning BP someday, I have this thing about having a Double Barrel , BP shotgun and taking Pheasants with one.

I have taken ducks and doves with one, some years ago...just for some odd reason with no pheasants here, and knowing zilch about BP, this is what I want to do.

A grown person should not have as much fun as I have had this summer assisting kids and shooting a LOT of single shot .22 rifles with iron sights...
but I don't care. I am the bigger kid with the mustache. ;)

This is easy

What you need are more circles! In the inner most circle you place the good stuff EBR’s and sidearms. From there you work to hunting weapons. Then fun stuff. This is all very easy if you draw your circles correctly. Believe me there is no reason to own a .500 BPE without this rational.

Regards,

James

Old Things

It is very common that Old Guys like old things. We might go with the technoloy for a while but fall back on the comfort and familiarity of the past. I have a 97 Olds but drive a 53 five window pickup most of the time. Why, because I can fix the truck and the Olds has to be towed to the dealership when it stops. I think we probably all have the same feelings about that certain revolver and will eventually sell the auto to someone who wants to blow a lot of ammo.

Ok, whats the speed of Dark?

Same here. As I get older I want to make things less complicated. Just bought a Yugo Mod 70 Underfolder. Can't beat them for size, power, parts, reliability, ammo. Gave my son my DSA FAL, other son will get the SP1, daughter will get the Underwood M1 carbine, most of the others will be sent down the line.

I am getting ready to start my circle. The first gun I bought 7 months ago. Mossberg 500 28" accu choke barrel. I was going to go tatical with short 18" barrel and folding stock. After much internet reaseach I just put a sling on her and stocked a couple hundred rounds of various shells for shtf hunting. The factor of weight of the 12 gauge and ammo turned me off the shot gun. I started to lust over a ar-15 and decided to keep the shot gun stock. Then realized I need a side arm before the rifle. Now I'm shopping hand guns. Probably gonna go revolver. Then I want a super accurate 22 then I think I'll go AK.

I watched a field strip video of the ak and it seemed pretty simple. Wonder what it's like to strip an AR?

I really havent noticed myself going in the circle trend. I do however go through these fads of shooting one of my guns more than of the other guns I have. Sometimes it may be my M1A, sometimes my AR, sometimes I'll even start bringing my old Marlin to the range frequently. But one thing I can say; I have never sold any of my guns. The only gun that I have purchased that has left my possesion was my Ruger P95, and it didnt even leave my family, I gave it to my Dad.

I've acquired a pretty decent collection of EBRs during the past few years, but Saturday night I took out my Euroarms 1858 Remington and did some charcoal burning. I started out shooting with air rifles and black powder.

Felt good.

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry to ramble, long time listener first time caller.

Nope, the gun that really brought me into the gun nut business was a S&W Model 14, and S&W revolvers are still #1 with me. Like every other Carolina kid I knew in the 50's and early 60's, I had a .22 and a shotgun, but those were just something you had and hunted with. That 1972 model 14 started me on the path to financial ruin that I enjoy to this day. That's not to say that I don't like anything else; heck, as I age I find that I really like all guns without discrimination, from the cheapest Saturday Night Special to Purdey's best, but S&W wheelguns will always be my favorite.

In college I shot revolvers

and then I went with semis... I now prefer revolvers.
