Anyone ever convert an M1 carbine to .38 special?

Howzabout a .44Mag on a Carbine frame? I seen it with my own eyes! A bit of Google-fu has revealed it.

Jim Watson, you're right of course, it must have been in the standard Commonwealth .38-200, not .38 Special, still a rimmed revolver cartridge though.

The M1 30 cal carbine is so much better than 38, why do it??? The little 5.7 Johnson is a good round...I have one, I like it. The idea was to not go with the Stoner and convert all the M1's to the 5.7 but it never got off the ground.

The Carbine is still around and doing just fine.:)

Yes, JesseL, it is a pump action. The picture doesn't show just how much the thing really looked like an M1 that was modified. IIRC, a 15-shot straight mag held ~ 7 or 8 rounds of .44M

The Universal Vulcan .44 mag carbine used the same 5-round black plastic magazine as the Ferret .256 carbine. The plastic magazine is kind of "universal" in its application (no pun intended) and is a compromise in most ways. I never tried loading any .256 Win Mags into a .30 cal GI magazine.

"Plastic magazines available in black for the Universal Vulcan in .44 magnum and .256 Winchester magnum and silver for the Universal M1 Carbine in .30 cal. Carbine. Manufactured by Iver Johnson."

These mags are now $33.10 each, which makes me glad I bought a handful of them years ago for $6 each!

:)

38 special has gotten awfully expensive these days. Cheap it is not. If ammo manufacturers just increased their 30 carbine production it would likely sell for the same as 38 special.
