Anyone ever seen a rimfire-only shooting range?

Didn't know if townships were more apt to grant variances on discharging firearms in town if they're rimfire only (and/or indoors). I'd love to open a rimfire range but don't know if the traffic would be enough to make it viable.

Any rimfire ranges out there? Pictures?

Thanks!

Yessir, I have.

They were College ROTC matches and information was published (NRA).

Because the distance is short (10 meter or 50') and the projectiles small (.17 or.22), the targets are really, really small.

Ten meter air gun and 50 ft rf was a lot tougher than it looked.

It took the wind out of my sails and cured any pre-conceived notions about 'air guns'.

Maybe some Colleges still have indoor ranges. Lead splatter and ventilation became an issue.

Again, the NRA might be your best source of information.

I can relate to that, having shot on a ROTC small bore rifle team for a few years back in the mid '60s. I also remembered how scores dropped when we went from the standard NRA small bore where the bull was I think. .22"in diameter to the International target were the bullseye was like this ( . ) maybe a bit bigger but essentially like the period on a typewriter.

Well lets see here is the short list

Hampton University has one
Langley AFB
Laffeyett gun club has one
Newport News park
seems like there is one in chesapeake too.

and thats just what I know about in my area. I am more than certian there are more around here.

Our local outdoor facility has a separate .22 rimfire only plinking range. It's setup with metal targets. Of course we also have centerfire ranges.

Were any of these commercially viable ranges, or perhaps just an add-on to an otherwise popular shooting club or other recreational setup? Thanks!

I can't asnwer that question. However, you might wish to make both an indoor and an outdoor range. I also think an indoor one would be more expensive, so that might stop that idea

The place I joined is indoor and lead only (plated ok FMJ not) and 1000FPS or less which is pretty much .22 only for me
