Has anyone tried/own one of these? I'm getting the bug for another .22 handgun and really prefer a revolver, but the Chiappa 1911-22 is fairly inexpensive.

I remember reading the reveiw on it the American Rifleman and a bit ago at the Bun Blast site. Both article showed it to be a very accurate pistol.

Anyone with any firsthand experience with these?

I don't, but I've seen warnings on other forums about them. They seem to have a problem with breaking the barrel bushing, and guys have been advising to steer clear of them.

I've heard the GSG 1911 is way better, it's only a little bit more as well. All i've heard about the Chiappa is it breaks relatively easily. Sorry, I know you were looking for first hand experience but i thought I would throw in my two cents.

I've got one, My Jennings jams less. At the rate mine jams it'd be about impossible to shoot it enough to break it, unless you have near infinite patience.

Total waste of money. I had to pay to send it back for warranty repair (~$60 FedEX :( ) and if anything it came back worse! This is as bad as it gets!

The Gun Blast Article is deceptive. They shot it from a mechanical rest and claimed it was "very accurate". It has the frame fixed to the barrel so of course its accurate when you clamp the frame in a vice. But in real shooting with this kind of design, since the sights are on the slide accuracy is set by the consistency of the slide position relative to the barrel after each shot which in my Chiappa 1911-22 was poor.

For the price you'd be way better off with a S&W M22A or just about anything else out there.

I first posted this in RimFire Central....

I picked up this Chiappa 1911-22 a couple of weeks ago. I've been really surprised with it's performance. The trigger measured at a little over 5 lbs and the accuracy is very good. I tried about a dozen brands of ammo; and CC Standard Velocity and Mini-Mags worked the best. I've read a couple of bad reports on this pistol, so I've been very surprised at its performance. Just need to find a couple more mags. A friend already borrowed the Chiappa to have his wife shoot it. He hasn't been able to get her to shoot a 1911, even in 9mm. Fine as long as I get this one back.

I looked serriously at the Chiappas, and luckily the next week, when I went in to look again I got on here and someone suggested looking at a GSG 1911-22. I went back the the shop that had had the Chiappa I looked at and saw a brand new 1911-22 GSG in the case. For about $40.00 more, the gun is like night and day. It has all the goodies on it m(beavertail, novak style sights, ambi safety, arched MSH) , better sights, and has a more real 1911 feel as well. I also had read and heard it is more reliable than the chiappa.
