Reading a thread on a Canadian forum about the best precision rifles, and if there's anywhere where people would own these priceless rifles, it'd be here. Just looking for further information.

Thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145633

Highlights:

DSR
---DSR-1.... Once you'ver fired one, everything else pales...

As far as price goes, take an AI and add all of the things that come standard with the DSR and you are not that far off anymore. I came up with about a $2500 difference. Given the quality, the DSR is (IMHO) worth every penny.

---Another vote for the DSR-1. Price would probably be close to 14K by the time you put a S+B 5-25x56 or a little more if you put a Zeiss 6-24 x 72 scope on it!

---I totally agree it is the most accurate rifle on the market currently with the capabilty of delivering .2 moa accuracy, tests were conducted at the British Army Sniper School .It is amazing rifle to shoot and is extremely well balanced.

Cheytac Intervention

---They Cheytac is a piece of crap.

---I had three of them. They are junk.Way overmade and too heavy for what they are.Poorly designed.

---I didn't replace it with anything. That was they gun they wrote into the script so that was the gun they used.
Here's a pic you doubting Thomas.

Grens actually had to machine an exact copy out of aluminum. It now hangs in the office of the president of Cheytac. He had to build a light weight version because in the final scene where Mark picks up the rifle and points it at people, the gun was too heavy to do it easily.

Two were camed up the same and the third never made it out of the case. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/longshotspage/new109.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/longshotspage/new091-1.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/longshotspage/new096.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/longshotspage/new094.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/longshotspage/new092.jpg

---unboy these rifles are not availiable in Canada. We had to get special permits from the US Government just to bring them in for the movie. It was a giant hassle.Paint jobs on ALL the rifles in SHOOTER were done by me.If you want a paint job we can talk.

Things that are crap with the Cheytac.
#1.Weight.Way too heavy
#2.Stock.Fidgety and the button to collapse it was usually stuck. Also looked like it was made out of coat hangers.
#3.Cheek piece too short.
#4.The point of the tube was?????Oh yeah.Too hold on the crappy bipod that swiveled all over the place at the most annoying moments.
#5.The carry handle on the botom was for?Carrying it upside down?Guess they had to attach something to the tube.
#6.Action seemed overbuilt for the caliber.
#7.Remington trigger was fine but when your gun is being featured in a movie at least check it to make sure all the parts work and are present.

Shall I go on?

I'm not saying that the caliber is bad.I have some dummy rounds for it and they are amazing. The BC must be stupid.Just saying that in my humble opinion there are better rifles out there.I'd take a Timberwolf over it any day.Least if I had to jump with it I'd know that it wouldn't fall apart if I had a rough landing.

---27 lbs without ammo and scope.

---I like this one better to be honest!
http://www.cheytac.com/M-310R.html

---Yep fair enough.Didn't do it for me at all.Like I said,I really like the other rifles they have, but this one isn't very well designed.
And yeah we never got to shoot anything other than blanks through it.But damn I was tempted!

---They Cheytacs were done with model paint because it had to be able to come off and also get weathered. Were I to do it on someones gun I would probably do it in duracoat like this one in my post. Then its bulletproof.

Or perhaps model paint with a duracoat matte clear overspray.

I thought about getting a Cheytac rifle until I saw this on their site:

"CheyTac® M-200 is now available to the civilian market in a
mildly detuned civilian edition."

http://cheytac.com/M-200 Spec CIVSheet1-07.pdf

Detuned??? :barf:

Thanks Cheytac, but this "civilian" will stick with non-PC, non-neutered rifles. Cheytac can go on kissing ass in the government market without my financial support. I'll buy from manufacturers who'll supply me with an accurate rifle and a full-capacity magazine.

Just looking at the AMP, I have to wonder how well it works from improvised field positions (ie, other than a nice flat prone), and how you're supposed to run the bolt quickly. I see a lot of sharp edges.

Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't handled it.

They had one at the store/range I go to, just sitting on a table along side a Sako and something else. But with a big note saying, "Please do not touch." ;(

I think this part is interesting:

The bolt features six lugs that locks directly into the barrel.

IMtheNRA; hell yea if they don't want to sell you their stuff then stuff 'em. They must be learning marketing from Cartman on Southpark.
