Hello Everyone!

I'm new here, but I've been lurking here for some time.

This weekend we're going to Norway. We'll be staying there for a week.
Does anyone know what non-firearm self defense tools are legal to carry in Norway?
I'm thinking about:
-Pepper spray?
-Knives? (Any restrictions on blade length, type, etc. ?)
-Kubotans?
-Perhaps ASP batons?

Thank you!

Greg

I'm not in Norway, but I believe the laws are similar there.

If so, all kinds of "weapons" are banned. This includes what's referred to as "street weapons", which is basically anything with a purpose to be used as a weapon.

- Pepper spray is most likely illegal, there is a "self defense spray" sold here, but I dont know if it's effective.
- Knives are banned in public unless you have a reason for it, say a carpenter can have a knife suitable for his work, if you're fishing a suitable knife is ok. A small pennknife will probably work, I dont know if there's any lenght, it's usually up to the discretion of the police checking it. Anything above 2 inches might be dicey.
- Kubotans you might get away with, unless it looks too much like it's a designated weapon. A sturdy pen or maybe a keyring might work. But expect questions if you need to use it.
- ASP batons, forget it. That's a club, and is the essence of "street weapon".

I think the general idea is that anything you carry you should be able to explain as something other than a weapon. ("it's just a pen, I happened to hold it when he attacked me")

Maybe someone else can give you exact info, but this is what I would say, based on our laws here. I think they are about the same in Norway.
IANAL and YMMV

yeah he is right, you can not have any "weapons" with you on the street for use as a weapon.

maybe you should develop a limp and need to use a walking stick with a nice knob for a handle (bubba stick) to help you get around.

How about a flashlight, makes a great impact weapon. Streamlight and Maglight makes some good ones.

Jealous here. My family is from there and I haven't been back since I was a little punk.
For travel I recommend a healthy pen and a magazine that can be rolled up very, very tightly.
My wife and I have have been trying out the "defender". It is fun, made of plastic and hides in a deep pocket quite easily.
Find it at pdws.biz
Travel safe!
Eric
