Anyone buy one of these that AIM, SOG and other are selling? I am supposed to have one from SOG on the way to me but they have been a week in shipping and Ohio is just next door. I am wondering what happened.

I can't want to see if it ever gets here.

I've had one on order from J&G Sales since before Xmas. No sign of it yet. I've seen them at gunshows marked up way to much, but they looked pretty good.

Not to hijack the thread, but - why are the Yugo kits so much more expensive than the Polish underfolder kits?

We are not talking about kits but compleat guns here. They have started making a legal version of the Yugo underfolder with an American made receiver. They are making it from the Yugo kits so that may be what is driving up the costs of the Yugo kits right now. Supply and demand I guess. The Yugo kits weren't expensive a few years ago so that is my best guess.

"I heard the bores are not chrome-lined."

I'm not sure about this. From what I hear, they are new made barrels made in USA. I did get a chance to look down the bore of one at a gunshow and it looked bright enough to be crome but I couldn't say for sure.

SOG told me that they would be shipping it out ASAP and that they got some in. It has been two weeks since they said that! I have been waiting since Jan 3 on this order and not it looks like there may be yet another delay! I had an order placed with AIM as well but I cancelled it when SOG called to tell me that they got them in. If SOG screws this up for me, I am going to be pissed off! I was locked in at the lower price with AIM and if I had to prder through them again, I wil have to pay the higher price and go to the back of the line.

I will let you know how SOG comes through but it is not looking good.

Call SOG and let them know again. From what I can gather they are having horrendous problems with their computer system and dropping orders. Talk to Tina, she was very helpful when my order was taking a month to process.

I got a preban Yugo (Mitchells) under folder and if you like real heavy, almost RPK AKs they are the bomb. 1.5mm Recievers with beefed up trunions and heavy rivets. My bores are chrome lined. My Tritium factory sights are dead:( The scope rails are not Warsaw pact compatable.:(

My dealer just got them. I am going to pick it up tonight. I ordered two but my friend is buying one of them. I wouldn't mind at all if I had to have two of these. I have checked them out and I am very impressed. They look a lot better than even the best Romanian AKs I have seen.

Yugo guns have been good to me. I own a bunch of Yugo SKS, a Yugo M48a, and several other Yugo guns and they have all been high quality. On the other hand, every Romanian gun I have had has been sub par. Chinese is also kind of junky as far as I have seen.

(Raising hand) My son got me one.

I would handle one first before buying.

Floppy underfolding stock?
Horrid unchrome barrel?

Important choices when plopping down this money.

I'd personally pass.

I got them yesterday. They are wonderful. The fit and finish on these are better than any AK I have yet seen. These are worth the moeny for sure.

They don't have chrome lined bores but the barrels are new. I don't think chome lined is all that important. I have had AR-15 that didn't have chrome lined bores and they lasted and were just as good as the chome lined ones.

The underfolder on mine is not floppy. There is a small amount of play but not at all sloppy.

I suggest you get these while the getting is good if you wanty one because from what I hear the price is already going up on these.

Bores and Stocks

I have one.

The stock has play - it got a little worse through handling/lubing. BUT - it will lock up tight on the shoulder, and the cheek weld ain't bad.

The barrels are new and not chrome lined. So - IF I shoot some corrosive stuff, I'll do soap/water.

Mine had some trouble with the trigger at first - did not reset. After 100 rounds, it is gone.

Did manage to shoot a 2.75" group off-hand at 25 yards - not bad - will know more this summer.

The FRY did not have a domestic source for chrome and hence it is
known that their SKSs do NOT have chrome bores. Their AKs may
be a different matter if they imported their chrome later or if the
current parts sets may be using barrels from another country.

I have never seen a yugo AK parts set or complete rebuild noted to
have a chrome-lined bore. In fact, I've seen something that would
indicate the opposite-- "dark bores."

Chrome is a only a factor if you intend to shoot corrosive so so-called
"slightly corrosive" ammo. Slightly corrosive, though, is like being
slightly pregnant.....;)

"the primers are corrosive on all ammo....right"

No. That would make all ammo corrosive which it is not. Most corrosive ammo has corrosive primers that is what makes it corrosive. The power is not normally the corrosive part in most "corrosive" ammo you get, the primer is.

It's a matter of degree. Go do some research.

When people talk about "corrosive" ammo, they are primarily talking about primers that are made form mercury-based compounds. These leave corrosive slats in the bore that if not flushed out with hot, soapy water will lead to rusting very quickly. 1950's and earlier ammo was almost (note the almost) all corrosive. Some countries still produce corrosive primers.

Blackpowder acted in a very similar manner.

Today with modern primers and smokeless powders, shooting your firearm and not cleaning it right away is not a death knell for rust. Left unattended, ANY metal will eventually corrode.

I think it's mercury in the primers that is extremely corrosive --not
to mention a health hazard-- and it will eat your barrel, gas piston,
piston tube and bolt carrier much worse fairly quick.

Even with a chrome bore, you need to pay special attention to all
the other non-chromed components when it comes to corrosives.
