I'm trying not to buy any other firearm stuff until Black Friday and intending to go out and grab some deals. Dunno what I'm looking for, but I remember seeing some good deals in the paper last year. Anyone got any hopes or plans?

Never saw any real gun related stuff on Black Friday. As a matter of fact some stores that run overall percentage off deals on Black Friday specifically exempt guns from the promotion.

I'll confess ignorance. What is "Black Friday?"

It's the day after Thanksgiving. Virtually all big stores hold some pretty wild sales (particularly on electronics). The hot-ticket items usually are in very short supply and hence require you to typically arrive early and wait in line.

Last year around here for places opening at 6am the lines were starting at around midnight.

I hate shopping and I hate crowds. I double-hate crazy crowds at crazy sales. I triple-hate waiting in long lines with crazy people who are waiting for crazy sales. I'm not even leaving home on Black Friday.:p

Mike, I'm with you 100%, I HATE all the nonsense. Never have and hope never to go near a store on Black Friday. There is a small group of us weather allowing spend that day playing tennis, watch football enjoying an adult beverage. Then the Guy's fix a nice potluck buffet for the ladies and any kids/grand kids who happen to be in town. Much nicer way to start the holiday season.

Black Friday USED to be good

because, here in SC, guns were tax free! But, alas, apparently not this year. :banghead:

Palmetto State Armory had a great sale to go with last year's tax free day.

Yikes, the Atlanta traffic is legendary in it's awfulness, and even worse on Black Friday. I doubt if I could get a mile away from my house in an hour...I don't need anything that badly.

Just for fun, I'm going to go buy myself some camouflage clothing and tactical gear. Then, I'll put on some sunglasses, my boonie hat, grab my Airsoft M-16, and go trolling around the mall with my tactical friends. It will be hilarious!

Why, yes, I do have a Black Friday expectation. I expect to be at the range with a brother-in-law, nephew and two nieces. It is a tradition with us. As one niece got married last year, her husband, a budding gun guy, will join us and shoot as many different guns as we bring.

I love Black Friday.

I stay home on Black Friday if I can help it.

Having been in the retail industry, it really is a very very very bad day.

Origin of the term

The origin of the term is that it's the day that a retail business moves into the "black" for the year, i.e. begins to show a profit (if it has not already done so).

When I had my own retail business I made a good year's pay between Thanksgiving and New Year's (the weekend between Christmas and New Year's was the best; folks had their Christmas bonuses to spend, and they had exchanged or returned Christmas gifts and were out to get what they really wanted!).

Nowadays I generally avoid big-box stores and malls, but particularly on Black Friday; it's just too frenetic.

I've never taken advantage of it (due to the fact that I so rarely buy guns locally), but I thought that the tax free day was during the back-to-school season when all the clothing and other stuff went tax free?

^^ THIS. I will not be a part of the madness to save a couple bucks...not even close to being worth it for me. Not that big of a shopper anyways.

I think it was 2006 that Dunham's ran a deal on Swiss K31's for $79. I got two the week after for $99 each and was slightly bummed because of the $20 difference.

Now I look at the current selling price of Swiss rifles and smile.

I probably should have picked up a K98 at the time too. I think they were $150.

I just stay home and have a beer. Those sale prices are not that great anyway......chris3

I got one of those K31's from AIM Surplus back when they first hit the market for $89. Nice rifle, but my interest in milsurp rifles has taken a nosedive in the last few years. I'm just debating how long I hold onto that thing before deciding to divest myself of it. I figure if I wait long enough I might be able to transform it into a low-end 1911 :D.

Last year I got my first AK rifle on a Black Friday sale. I'm definitely going to be checking out the Black Friday sales this year. I'll just be looking for whatever catches my eye.
