I have this surplus ammo from the 40's or 50's. 70 rounds in a bandolier on 5 round stripper clips. Anyone have the specs in regards to
bullet weight,
velocity,
energy,
drop,

Also - it looks like the supplies of this has also dried up. Ammoman.com and cheaper than dirt are both out. Anyone else have any? If not I think it's time to reload.

Thanks.

What is on the case? Numbers, letters, etc....

Depending on the ammo, there is info out there to determine what it is, just need to know what is stamped on the bottom.:)

If its 70 round cloth Bandoliers, w/ 5 round strippers, its almost surely the Turkish stuff that was going around for quite a while and I think there's more out there). IIRC, its 147grn at around 2800 fps. Note: This is considered pretty "hot"ammo... Usually OK< but I've heard about some case splits, etc. ALSO,I tried two (2)rounds in a rearsenalled 1893 Turkish Mauser and it "stuck" the bolt,on both.

If it is the Turk ammo it's a 154gr spitzer at ~2950fps (per my chronograph). It is a high pressure round. In my gun it'll crater the primers. But my Turk Mauser also has excessive headspace, so I don't know if that has an influence. That said, I've got 150gr Spire Point handloads that chrono at 3007fps that do not show any of those pressure signs. It could be that the cupro-nickle jacket produces higher friction in the bore than the modern copper jackets.

If anyone wants it I have a few bandoliers of that ammo that I want to sell. PM me if you want it. I'll cut a great deal on it since I'm getting ready to move to WA and would rather not have to deal with it.

Sumpnz - I did send you a pm about your ammo.

OK - how do I notice signs of excessive pressure. I've shot a few hundred rounds of this through my M48 with no issue. I can tell you that it does shoot hard though.

Also - any issues with Yugo surpless?

Finally - any issues with the steel cased surpluss from Yugo or Romania?

Thanks,

OK - the head stamp in the blue bandolier reads 7.9,F.S,1947,T?C (? is some type of symbol)

The head stamp from the gream bandolier reads the same only the year is 1941. I was under the impression this was 196 gr? Anyone?

I'd also like to know the trajectory if I can find it.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure the stuff in the bandoliers is turkish ammo. Atleast the ammo I bought was. One thing I found with that ammo is alot of the cases would split on the necks after i shot it. Anyone know what the case splitting means, problem with ammo or gun? They all fired though. Maybe a search on turkish surplus specs would give you some more info for your question

They split on the neck from age tension on improper anealed necks. No big deal in a bolt gun. I have fired 50,000 through a 1919A4 seperating the split before firing necks out to shoot in my 1898's No problems with them.

gezzer - I'm not sure I understand your comment. Is it ok to shoot this ammo from a bolt gun? Will I notice the neck splits before or after I shoot it?

thanks.

The "C" is probably a crescent....only a few digits off from the load of Turkish I have, mine is 1930's vintage.

It is loaded hot, and it is corrosive so clean accordingly.

I have had no problems in my M-48 or K98 with this ammo, found a few split necks and a couple of loose bullets and discarded the bad ones. So take a look at the ammo before shooting.

Out of 300-400 I have fired, I have only discarded a dozen or so, and only a dozen or so duds.

I just got me Cheaper than dirt catalog. It has 1200 rounds of 8mm Yugo surplus for 129.00. This is not that bad considering availability and comparable prices.

Don't wait, I didn't
