If any of you guys have one of the Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 scopes, could you do me a huge favor and measure the diameter of the objective end? Trying to figure out if I can get by with my current medium rings, or if I need to order highs. Thanks.

From measuring my example 2-3/16 inches is the major outside diameter of the objective. With a Burris two piece mount and medium height signature rings I just clear (3/64 of an inch) the major outside diameter of the objective with the barrel taper. Depending on barrel taper near the breach end I’d go with tall rings to be safe. This could be critical for proper scope eye relief.

Your medium rings should give you plenty of action clearance. If bolt handle clearance is not a problem, low rings will work fine.

When I mounted my Burris on my Winchester 70 Sporter I tried medium rings first but they were not tall enough for the scope bell, I had to use high rings.

You guys do realize that the 42mm is the size of the lens right? Not the size of the objective bell of the scope. So obviously it's going to be bigger than 42mm on the outside. His measurements actually sound very close since Burris says 56mm on their site.

Kludge Are you sure? 2-3/16" = 55.56mm 42mm ~ 1-11/16"

Yes my measurement was made with a 6 inch rule divided into 1/16 inch incumbents. The 42mm is the lens measurement. The OD of the objective is bigger in diameter than the lens diameter.:what::what:;)

I assume you know which end of the scope is the objective end correct. Should the objective contact the barrel contour near the breach end this would no allow front to back movement to adjust the scope to eye for relief/ proper focus.:what::)

Well, I checked it out with some feeler gauges and it looked like I'd have enough clearance. Then I got the scope today, and I feel I have plenty of clearance left. I just thought I'd post this photo in case others were wondering.

Here it is with Burris Signature Zee medium rings.
