I was wondering if anyone is shooting the FN 5.7 round and if anyone is loading for it?
I have been going around in circles on what to buy since I have some cash in the gun fund. I was going to get a new handgun but this is one of those things that has been calling to me for a while. I am getting very tempted to pick up a rifle in this caliber namely the AR-57. What reason I don't have one other than the voices in my head say buy it.

I wanted to see what you guys think about it and help me decide. I have way too many AR's already but nothing like this and I think it would be cool to have. I have enough cash for an upper and a case of ammo. A lower can be borrowed off of one of my AR's until I can get a dedicated lower for it so what's your opinion?

they're cool and fun and different. not terribly practical, but it doesn't look like you're looking for practical.

I have a Contender G2 with a Match Grade Machine 5.7X28 barrel.
Of course lots of folks reload for the 5.7. Just like any other reloading just follow case trim length and shoulder position and it will be just like any other. IIRC Alliant and Ramshot have published data check their web sites. Dedicated FN5.7 sites have lots of reloading info like where to get brass and such. Uses normal smaller weight .224 bullets. Not much over 55gr and most fun loads around 40gr. My contender is accurate and fun. Wish I had the bucks for the AR 57 and ammo. :)

Practical rarely enters into my gun buying anymore. :D

I am just looking for aother fun gun to add to my collection.

I have a bit of reloading data for the 5.7X28MM.. Hornady 35Gr V-Max .224 Dia bullet , 5.3 -5.9 Gr True Blue powder------6.7 -7.5 Gr AA No. 7 powder. I would like to try out a bolt action rifle with a 24 inch barrel.. From what I have read the bullet velocity would be a bit less than the old 22 Hornet..The case length is 1.135 inches per Lyman reloading manual..

Thanks for the info,
I currently load for all of my rifles and most of my handguns. I'll probably just start out with 1000 rounds of factory ammo then go from there into reloading.

57center's AR-57 looks really interesting. I'd bet that it would be a decent low-recoil, close-range firearm.
Rhineland Arms was going to offer a 5.7mm rifle. But no one really knows what's up with them anymore.

The AR-57 is admittedly pretty fun...one of my co-workers discovered that a gutted 30rd magazine makes for a handy brass catcher with some slight modifications.

Looks like it depends on the type of magazine (we only tried a Pmag, and didn't modify it), but either heightening the mag latch hole, or else trimming down the feedlips so that it will properly seat. Otherwise it looks like the feedlips impinge on the upper just shy of locking into the magwell fully.

Well I busted out and bought one off of Gunbroker. I hope to have it in about a week depending on how fast they ship.

Now I just need to invest in some ammo and a lower. For right now I plan on using the lower off of my M-4gery. I also have a nice set of GG&G sights to go on it. I think about optics later.
