Anyone have an M&P-10 2.0?

I asked this in the General Handgun area but it might get more looks in the Autoloader area. Just curious if anyone here has some trigger time on the M&P-10 2.0? On paper it looks great. Optics-ready out of the box, good capacity, etc. Of course, that only matters if it runs right. Any feedback on the pistol? If I bought it one it would be pretty much for woods use for camping and hikes. I'm in SW Montana so it would be mostly for big bears (we have the odd 900 lb Grizz and black bears, too).

I carry a 4" in Alaska. I have a red dot on it and I have a few kydex holsters in various configurations for woods carry.

I've shot it in warm and cold, mild to wild, and with/without optic and it hasn't failed.

Very accurate, perfect size, excellent weather resistant finish, light, controllable.

It's my favorite auto... Well, maybe tied with my CZ P10

Mine is sitting down at my LGS in delayed background check status, so I will have to get back to you on my opinions about it. But I purchased the m&p 10mm 4.6" for the very reason you mentioned. I'm no stranger to the intermountain west and recently applied for employment positions that would place me smack in the middle of either Idaho, Montana or Wyo backcountry. The agency won't let me carry on duty (except for bear spray) yet my on duty status won't be 24/7 either. Now I do a lot of solo outdoor activities
on days off and I'm not going to let the thought of big carnivores detour my plans (unless there is obvious notification of a bear guarding a kill site along a trail or something common sense like that). I am more than happy to give them the right of way rather than press a confrontation but I'm don't want to be chewed on by one either. Most planning for all the 'what if's' is hypothetical until suddenly needed, but I rather have it with me along with bear spray then have a case of the sudden 'wants or needs'.

Edit: Doesn't look like it from the picture but that is a Big Pistola!

I've had one for a while. I went with the 4" barrel and manual safety version. Zero issues so far and it is more accurate in my hands than the G29 that it replaced. This isn't a gun that gets used a lot; I use it when hiking/camping in bear country. For more urban settings I don't believe 10mm is needed, but compared to a big bore revolver I think it makes a better dual-purpose option.

Only black bear where I roam mostly but I feel better with the 10mm even for our bear. I carried the Glock 10mm when we went to Yellowstone and when I go back the Smith 10mm will go with me.

I liked and shot my Glock well enough but was never comfortable sleeping with a loaded chamber and no manual safety. Having the option of that safety is what convinced me to change. I've not tried an optic, but it has a mounted light when sleeping at night.

Picked up the 4.6 Monday. I bought it over the G20 because the grip fit my smallish hands better and the trigger is much better out of the box. Of course the 100 buck rebate is a nice addition. I put 100 rds of the S&B fmj through it yesterday without any issues or ftf. I guess I need to get use to those tall sights that are on it to co witness with the micro dot. Groups are nice but I was hitting low and had to adjust. I don't believe I will put a dot on it so I may replace the sights with carry height sights. Plenty out there to choose from. I bought it for a woods/Jeep gun I can through under the seat or carry on hunts. I got the one with the safety as well...

So far of all the 10MM’s I’ve owned, the M&P 2.0 feels the best in my hands. So far it beats out a G20, G40, 1006, XDM elite, Witness Poly 10 MM and a Rock Island 1911.

I only have the M&P 2.0, G40 and XDM Elite left in my 10MM collection.

there is a $100 rebate on them right now. If I hadn't spent so much on current project, I would've gotten one. Either this or the XD, or both.

I’d jump on that rebate offer in a minute if I was considering the M&P 2.0. Mine is the 4.6” model with manual safety.

Just a quick first review from the field today.

After stripping the gun apart, cleaning with G96 and lubricating the 8 points listed in the owner's manual I put it back together and changed out the medium backstrap for the small one. At home I load all four magazines 15 rounds apeice and let them set for a couple of days like that. I left the gun open and locked back for the same amount of time

I shot 65 round total of 50 CCI Blazer 180 gr., 10 Underwood 200 gr. and 5 Underwood 220 gr from 15 yards away. This was my best group.

But the majority of everything I shot was consistently in a nice group two inches BELOW this one!!! My strong hand placement on the handle is fine, but my weak hand placement (both thumbs forward) acted like it's standing in the unemployment line so I will work on that solid grip at home (I don't have big hands in the first place) and I need to get use to the tall sights or replace them. They seem weird to me.

Two magazines ran perfectly. But the other two magazines drop out twice consecutively. One mag with the Blazer ammo fell on both the 5th and the 6th shot. Then the other mag did the same thing twice on the 7th and then the 8th round using Underwood 200 gr.

I had one failure to feed, but in that case I only loaded five 220 gr Underwood into the magazine and it happened right in between the second to the last round and the last round. Cleared the jam, loaded the FTF cartridge back into the mag and both final rounds cycled perfectly.

So it's a work in progress. I will admit that I do LIKE this gun. Like a lot of new guns its just some kinks to work out. Plus now I can start reloading for it with the spent Blazer brass.

@LNF150 I just ordered the Dawson non co witness set fiber optic. I'm not putting a dot on her so I spent my rebate. Just could not get use to those tall ones. Mine was shooting low left and tried adjusting rear sight for windage with brass punch. It won't budge. Soaking in pb blaster now...

I switched out the small back strap for the medium and that made the gun feel better using a two-handed grip so I'm going to try it one more time with those tall sights. If it is still squirrely I will check into the Dawson sights you mentioned. But I did order a 1/16" hex head allen to back the set screw out on my rear sight if that is the route I go.

Just an fyi, s&w put red loctite on that screw. It comes loose but just be aware. Why red on a set screw that is made to be loosened makes no sense...

Magazine issues with 220gr heavies and some HPs, and capacity is more like 14 1/2 rounds. I work around this by adjusting COAL in my reloads. Mine hasn't been as accurate as I expected so far, but I have only around 300 rounds in it so far. Much discussion on the SIG forum. It feels great in the hand and I like the way it points and shoots; I'm hoping that SIG will address the mag issues. Sadly, my XDM-10 has been a better overall experience for me.
Issues? I was seriously considering the XTen at one point...

I don't think I'd like those tall sights either.

So far I’ve had good accuracy with 200 GR Nosler JHP and Blue Dot, BE-86 and surprisingly 800X. All within acceptable groups. Waiting for warmer weather so I can run those loads thru a chronograph to get accurate numbers.

The 200 and 220 gr Hardcast from Underwood are within the 8 ring from 15 yds.

Yup, those powders are well-known for good 10mm performance. I really like BD and am warming up to BE-86. AA#9 is another good one, and who can forget Longshot? Did I read that 800X has been discontinued?

AA9 has all the power but not the accuracy I’m look for. Yes 800X is no longer on the market but I have 5lbs still.

BE-86 is also becoming a fav for me as well in several pistol calibers and has flash suppressant so that’s a bonus especially in 10MM. Longshot is my go to for 180 gr range loads for now,
