A friend of my father-in-law gave me a shotgun yesterday. It was in decent shape and it shoots pretty well. It says Virginia Arms on the reciever and also has NITRO on it as well. Anyone ever seen one of these?
If it says "Virginia Arms Co." it is probably one of the hardware store guns made by Crescent during the first third of the 20th century. They made hundreds of different "brands" - each hardware store or dealer could get their own brand by ordering a handful of guns.
Some pics would help, but "Virginia Arms Co." is on just about every list of Crescent guns I've seen.
The "Nitro Hunter", single barrel, was made by the Crescent Fire Arms company or by the Hopkins and Allen company. I had one in that was in very poor shape that was produced in 1930. Value today is between $150 & $250
It does appear to be about 60-80 years old. The finish is in pretty rough shape, but it does shoot pretty well. I'll try to get a pic on here. I hope it would be worth 150.00-200.00, that would be sweet for a free gun.
