Lately these have been catching my eye, and of course that means it was discontinued. All I have to do is show interest.......sheesh!

Anyway, I am familar with other barrel spinning pistols, the Mexican Obergon, Colt AA200, one of the early Steyrs if I am not mistaken. Any opinions of the Cougar, good, bad, or indifferent?

I have owned all three full-size Cougars, 9mm, .40 and .45. They were not my most accurate guns, but they were all fun to shoot. I gave the 9mm to my brother and sold the .40 to help finance another purchase. I still have the .45 and would not part with it. They were all three flawless and I never had any problems with any of them. If I had the extra funds, I would like to get another one in 9mm.

Cougar?

Yep, I've owned mine (8045F) for about 4 years now, been happy with it since day one. Smooth DA/SA trigger, good grip angle, low recoil, accurate.

But...

It is rather large for an 8 rounder, and has pronounced muzzle flip. Overall I like it, but after I bought my Kimber, it just dosn't see as much range time. (though I won't be selling it anytime soon)

have the "L" in 9mm & the 8045...to me the recoil is about the same on both..they are fun to shoot and i find them accurate ( far more than me)

im not surprised they are discontinued...not many people even know they existed...(beretta makes a .45???) (a cougar..??)

i think they are fine handguns..just overlooked..most owners love them

the only downside is re-assembly...a bit tricky..but once that is overcome..i cant see any problems with them

Had the Inox .40 cal. Fit my hand perfectly. Looked great with the matte stainless and wood grips. I loved the gun until I went to the range.

A big $600+ disappointment. The Cougar just was not accurate in my hands at all. Your experience may differ. Traded for a Sig 229 which I find far more accurate.

I still love the look and feel of the Cougar. Maybe if a used 9mm or 45 Cougar becomes available real cheap I'll give it another try.

Funny you should ask. Got one last week - in .45acp. So far so good. Made in Italy. Very nice quality. 200 rounds so far with total reliability. Grip is not quite on the svelte side, but the grip angle makes it fit my not-large hands nicely. Better fit for me than the Sig P220. Take down is fairly easy. The rotary barrel only adds one piece to the takedown procedure. I find reassembly easy if the gun is left upside down when placing the frame on the slide. (not the slide on the frame). I haven't noticed any undue recoil with my loads.

Here's two articles dealing with the gun:

Mine has a long double action trigger pull that I'm still getting used to. Smooth, but long. Not a Sig. Mine may be a bit particular about ammo. It didn't like a fmj load that my 1911's liked. I shot it today until my hands got cold. It seems to like a Bullseye load I tried today. Just to let you know you might have to experiment to find the load it likes best.

My deer hunting buddy has one in .40. Pretty good shooter. Reloads it likes best are loaded to the high side of medium for best cycling. He bought one of my 1991A1 Government's and the Beretta has not seen the light of day in a couple of years.
