Anyone here load the 62 grain SS-109 FMJBT's, .223

I am using 23.5gr of AA2230 for these and it seems super accurate. Unbelievably clean burning as well, I have a pistol AR and after 70 rounds I honestly wouldn't have been able to tell the gun had been fired.

SS109 in 16" Carbine

I stockpiled many of them starting in the early 1990's, mostly collet-pulled seconds, bought in bulk. I load them with 25 grains Ball C(2). I do most of my AR15 shooting from the various 16" carbines I have. With the rather crude iron sights on my Olympic receiver, I can easily do "minute-of-blue-helmet" at 200 yards from the bench. I don't have any scoped AR's, but suspect that my Colt pre-ban HBAR would do an easy 1.5 MOA with them with its factory irons. I recently had one of my old Sako's rebarrelled (had a flakey chamber) in .22-.250 with a 1/9" twist and I am eager to work up an SS109/M855 load for it. Should be an interesting experiment.

I load plinkin' loads with SS109 collet-pulls, using 20gr of TAC; this makes a light, economical load for my H&R bull barrel single shot. Since I use this gun/ammo combination for offhand shooting practice, I can't tell you much about the ultimate accuracy of the load.

The GI bullets, with the steel insert in the nose, have the reputation of shooting about 3 or 4" at 100 yards.

Just about any 55gr FMJ Lead core bullet should out shoot the 62gr bullet with the steel insert.
