I was just wondering if anyone has gotten approval in Charlotte, NC to get these sort of things.

If you move to Union Co. it gets a lot easier. I don't think the Meck. Co. Sheriff cares much for Class III.
 
Form a trust. I own multiple NFA items in Orange County (most liberal county in the state) and I have never even mentioned it to the Sheriff.
 
Trusts and Corporations can own NFA items without photos, fingerprints, or CLEO signature, because it's technically the trust/corp that owns the items and not you.

Forming the right kind of trust (a revocable living trust) takes about an hour with Quicken Willmaker software.

Just a warning. There is a group in NC called the NC NFA Defense Association. They highly suggest you do NOT use the trust method to acquire NFA items. A trust is not legal protection to own them in NC. I've never found a case of a trust user being prosecuted for anything, but I wouldn't want to be the test case. Plenty of people do it, but just a warning.
