Thinking of getting a Remington 700 VLS in 22-250. Anyone know what the barrel life is? Will be using it on Prairie Dogs and have heard you shoot alot doing that.

i have a few. barrel life for any gun is dependant on cartridge, and shooting habits (some evidence suggests shooting a barrel while it is hot erodes the throat faster than shooting a warm or cool barrel).

a 22-250 will give you plenty of fun on a prairie dog town.

expect to shoot 100 rounds on a slow day, about 200 on an average day, and as many as 350 on a good day. yeah, you'll get plenty of shooting in.

I have a Remington 700 VLS in .204 Ruger and am very pleased with the rifle. The trigger is adjustable with a little know-how and the stock is excellent for my tastes. Mine will shoot groups inside of an inch all day with good ammo from Hornady. I chose the .204 because of the .22-250 and .220 swift's reputation for burning out barrels during extended shooting sessions. The .204 has virtually the same ballistics as the .22-250 and milder recoil. It is a joy to shoot all day. I will recommend this caliber and model to anyone.

The .204 is also deadly on coyotes at 300 yards.
A friend of mine has a 700 VLS in .22-250 and has fired over 400 rounds through it with no problems.

I have one in .223 and am quite please with it. Only have shot about 200 rounds through so far but am looking for the best load for it. Right now it seems to be 26 grs of 748, 50 gr Hornady V-max, CCI 400 primer and Remington cases. Under a 1/2" at 100 yds. This summer hoping to improve on this.

The remington 700 vls is a great rifle, I have one myself, as well as a couple other 700 variations. However, for you to get one in a 22-250 would be redundant if you already have a .204. a better option would be to get a 308 or 25-06. This way you would also have a rifle capable of pushing a heavier load and thus getting rid of the annoying wobble that light calibers such as .204, 22-250, and 243 get when you try to push them past 300 yards.

The 700 VLS in 22-250 should shoot well with handloads & good glass, once the stock is pillared, glass bedded & the barrel floated.
A tuned trigger & timed fireing pin works wonders also.

The 700 VLS Great rifle...Heavy 26" barrel, Sweet wood furniture, deadly accurate. I'll be getting one in .308.

I have a VLS in 22-250 and I like it a lot. Great rifle, very accurate and not bad looking either. I have a Leupold 6.5-20x40mm LR scope with the Varmint reticle on mine.

I have yet to make it to a praire do hunt but intend to in the next year or two. From what I understand it is a multi-gun sport when hunting over a good town, you need to alternate rifles to alow cool down time.

My three I put together are the Remington VLS in 22-250, Savage model 11 BTH in .223 and a Stag arms model 6 AR-15 in 223 with 24" bull barrel.

I have a VLS in .223 and have probably shot close to 1000 rounds through it. It's insanely accurate! I absolutely love mine and will never part with it!
