Anyone know what the chance of suppressors being allowed in MN is? This would be awesome. It's being heard today.

Minnesota gun law expansions up for legislative debate

Posted: 03/09/2015 12:01:0

Call it Gun Day at the Minnesota Legislature.

A House panel is planning to discuss a handful of firearm-related proposals Thursday. They include bills that would legalize gun silencers and recognize gun permits from North Dakota.

In firearms related Bills, Governor Dayton relies on Law Enforcement to tell him what to do. If the Police chiefs in the TC area are against it, then Dayton will not sign it.

Not yet, hearings this week.

If they are against it, they will chime in after it advances out of committee.

My guess is it wont pass and if it clears the House and Senate, Dayton wont sign it. The idiot vetoed castle doctrine in 2012 so suppressors have little chance.

I agree, unless they can turn this into a barnacle Bill and attach it to something Dayton will sign, it is most likely dead already.

Yeah, someone posted in the comments section on the GOCRA Facebook page regarding suppressors....basically stating that the only use for a suppressor was to commit murder via assassination. Needless to say the comment wasn't well received. Hard to imagine someone can be so clueless.

That's too bad. Maybe we need to play up the benefits of suppressors. Things like reduced hearing damage and noise from gun ranges.

The local pro-gun group already did that. Looks like suppressors will pass the Senate and move to Dayton's office.

As of this morning, someone very close to this topic suggested that Dayton will sign the legislation... maybe because its bundled with other goodies for the DFL, like restoring voting rights for felons. Maybe there is still some hope here.

Here is the NRA explanation of the bill:

The bill that was passed in the Senate has now been sent back to the House for comparison with their companion bill. Although the pro-gun provisions of the bill - including legalization of suppressors - had wide support in the House, the other non-firearms parts of the bill may cause a delay, but I'm not sure about that.

As noted in the post above, there are many parts of the overall Senate bill that do appeal to Gov. Dayton, so in spite of his veto threat he may sign it anyway.
