Hello,

I'm trying to find a holster for a Smith & Wesson .32 1903 Hand Ejector, 3rd. Model. The gun has a 3 1/4" barrel. Just a simple leather holster to protect the gun. After searching the internet I guess I would call it a "cross draw" style holster. The holster makers I've contacted do not have a pattern for the gun. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks!

Any 3 1/2" or 4" J-frame holster should work just fine to "protect the gun". There is not that much difference in your gun, and say a model 34/63 .22 Kit Gun. It won't be a perfect fit, but should be fine for occasional carry or other use.

If "protect the gun" means for storage, you would be much better off with one of the small "universal fit" nylon holsters, or a silicone impregnated gun rug.

The nylon will not absorb moisture and rust the gun like a leather holster.

To be more clear, long-term storage in a leather holster is bad news!

rcmodel,

Thanks. I called the holster maker I'd called previously (El Paso Saddlery) and asked if they could make a J-frame holster. Of course they said they could. So, that's what I did. Thanks again.

I see I'm tardy again...

Anyway. The older .38 size J-frame is identical to an I-frame except the I-frame is about 1/4" shorter.

The barrels on .38 J-frames are usually 1 7/8 or 3 inches. Your gun has a 3 1/4" one.

So your revolver has a shorter frame but longer barrel, and the two will probably come out close to even. The problem might be that the safety strap (if there is one) might be a bit long or short - but if it's short it can likely be streatched a little.

Hopefully all of this will work out. You might ask if the maker could make the holster about 1/4" longer then usual. Sometimes they'll cut out a leather blank for a 4 inch length, and then trim it back. It won't hurt to inquire.

Hey Fuff,

I know, I'm impatient, sorry. You've helped me tremendously and once again THANKS! I found a photo somewhere on the internet that had one S&W from every frame size. The "I" and "J" do look very similar. I feel like you (and rcmodel) know your stuff. For what I want I think the "J-frame" holster will do just fine.

Thanks to both!
