I am just wondering if dealers at gunshows in neighboring states on or near the California border ask for ID when selling hi cap mags? As far as the stupid CA state law on hi caps goes, it doesn't apply once you leave the state so a CA resident could legally go over the state line and buy all the mags he wanted BUT it would be illegal to bring them back into the state where they are prohibited. I just wonder if sellers worry about getting into trouble and refuse to sell to CA residents? Anyone had any experience or have any knowledge?

I've never been asked for ID when purchasing a magazine out of state. Other than that, you have answered your own question. It is illegal to bring them into California.

Seen and bought lotsa magazines at gunshows here in Las Vegas and Reno. Never was asked for anything other than too much money. :D
As my dear old pa used ta say "Ride wid da law, not agin it." If ya don't like the law (who does besides feel good politicians?) work with Jim March's group to change it. It'd be money well spent if successful.

Worst case scenario is somone buys a standard capacity magazine in AZ, NV, OR, brings it into CA and gets caught, charged; the hue and cry begins and all the people who left CA and moved to neighboring states and are now the majority decide to follow suit and limit things in their new found states.

It's happened before. Virginia's one gun a month law, I believe, was gonna stop crime elsewhere. It can and will happen again.
