good idea , I did run some ideas and got some great guidance from Wade Rush "bubba rountree outdoors" I have watched lots of his videos and emailed him a few timesYou need to ask this question on the Cast Boolit forum
Use a Claybuster CB0178-12 (WAA12L) wad in a AA or Gun Club hull (standard folding crimp), and load as for 1⅛ ozsingle .690” ball cast from a Lee mold.
Were you, by chance, using any sort of filler in the wad...?I fiddled a bit with a 20 ga. lead ball in a 12 ga. shot cup, looking for a homebrew slug load for my rifled barrel W1300. Nothing seemed to work; accuracy was miserable. Picking up the wads downrange, I always found that one petal of the shot cup was badly deformed and bent back at an extreme angle. I surmised the ball was starting out off-center, crushed one petal and then wobbled non-concentrically downbore.
Fortunecookie45lc seemed to have really good luck with the Russian slug and proprietary wad. He made a video recently that those components are no longer available. With and without cornmeal... no, it was farina. Made no difference. I did buy some wads intended for steel shot (TPS from Ballistic Products) but haven't tried them yet... gotta cast more round ball first. Were you, by chance, using any sort of filler in the wad...?
