The ruger thread got me thinking. I'd like to have more than 4 rounds in my Remington 710 (it's a .243 but should in the .308 mags just fine). Has anyone modified an M14 mag to fit in the 710?

I know the 710 mag is a little different, it's a center-feed mag, but I wonder if it would work. Is it worth spending $15 on a 10-round M14 mag to try it? I don't personally have an M14 mag, so I have no idea if it's even close in size to the mag well on a 710.

Tried modding a FAL amg once. Turned out horribly. You have to open up teh stock to fit the M14 mag, then ahve to devise a latching mechanism. I tried to just weld the FAL mag to the 710 mag, but mag lenghts were too far apart to feed.

Shudder is right.

If you want detachable mags in you bolt, get a 700 and add a Badger Ordnance AICS floorplate and usin AICS mags. These mags are far superior to any milsurp mags made, and will fit in an unmodified 700 action. To use an M14 or FAL magazine in a 700 (and presumably 710), you will have to mill the receiver.

Robar was doing M14 mag modifications to 700 short actions but IIRC, they quit doing it because it was too much of a pain.

I don't think there will be any way to extend the capacity of your 710 with what is on the market. IMHO, for that type of rifle, having a 4 round capacity is 3 more than you'll actually need.
