My time of shooting rifles has been spent on AK and Sk's, Mini 14's and MI Carbine. I was recently handling an AR type rifle. One thing that stuck out to me was how different the sights seem to be. It seems it would take more time for me to find the target with one.

Anyone who has made the transition to AR guns notice this or is it just me? How quickly can one get used to the difference?

I think it's just a matter or learning. The AR15 has much superior sights to anything the Combloc produced, in fact, it's very similar to the M1 Carbine sights. You just need to learn to look thru to peep hole and put the front sight tip on the point you wish to engage the target. Try the bigger hole if the small hole is what you were using. Remember look thru, not at the rear sight. I think you'll see a difference. HTH

Keep both eyes open. If it is too difficult to shoot with both eyes open...keep both open to acquire the target then close the non-dominant one just prior to shooting. This works well for me on Army rifle quals which requires scanning for pop-up targets at different ranges.

At close quarters make sure to flip up the large "ghost ring" sight.

AR sights are pretty quick. But like most things, take time to get used to. I find the sight picture very similar to my M1 carbine. Both rifles are very fast on target--Once I learned to ignore the rear "peep". The term ghost ring is applicable because the rear "ring" becomes a ghost in your vision, just barly there. The focus is on the front sight and your eye and body work together (almost without thinking) to center the front post in the rear ring.

The closer the ring is to your eye, the better this concept works. Many people shoot the AR with their nose touching the charging handle. This gets them very close to the rear sight, and contributes to a consistent sight picture. Try it out, it may make a difference for you. For me it was night and day.

Take the tip of your nose put it on the corner( left side for me) of the charging handle when you shoot. It easier to get the exact same sight picture every time if you do that.
