I tried it for awhile. I found no real advantage over irons. Especially for the cost of a good red dot or reflex. So I switched to a variable Nikon Buckmasters 3x9. I keep it on 3x most of the time as most of my shots are under 75 yards. But occasionally I take shots upwards of 150 yards. So I have the added benifit of magnification, not just to see the animal, but to also “zoom” in and see if I potentially have any small twigs or branches in my bullets path.
This actually saved me one evening a month or so ago when a nice pig stepped out into a pond basin at about 100 yards. On 3x it appeared I had and easy shot. But when I turned up the magnification, I saw he was standing in a small thicket of about 24” tall, dried, pond reeds. So I waited until he stepped into an actual clearing before smacking him behind the shoulder with a 350gr Hornady RN.
