I don't regularly watch the show but did last night. While doing the story about the New Orleans serial killer they did a part about how women were arming themselves. A gun shop owner was interviewed giving numbers on how many women he had signed up for firearms safety classes and the show ended with a shot of several women shooting human targets at a range. Not a discouraging word was heard.
Isn't this a departure from the normal stance on guns for this show?

Well, the serial killer has been commiting his crimes in Baton Rouge and Lafayette and not New Orleans. And I'm not quite sure that the show has an anti stance on guns, but I really don't know about that. What I do know is that when this first came out last year, (R) Gov. Mike Foster openly encouraged women to take advantage of the state's CCW laws. He even went as far as to say that it would be great justice if a would be victim was the one to stop this killer. He even said that women should arm themselves no matter what they chose be it a concealed handgun or a baseball bat!

My error, thanks for the correction.

I saw this segment as well, and was pleasantly surprised to see the positive portrayal of women choosing to take responsibility for their own safety. Although I haven't seen this myself, I've read several comments about John Walsh pushing anti-gun ideas, especially on a talk show he does (did?).

i watch the often and they stress aways be prepared.not sure if they meant care a gun or not. but i know how we at THR are prepared and feel a safer for that.

Gun beats bat almost every time. I am glad the show did not bad mouth guns. I too mistakenly thought this was all taking place in New Orleans. I believe the governor recommended women should get a gun for their own protection!

Gov. Foster is a pretty big supporter of gun rights as far as I know. His statements on women using the laws to their advantage, and he did this openly in the media, was a good sign to me of his gun owning beliefs. My ex-girlfriend lives in Baton Rouge and I, along with her father, have been trying to convince her of getting a gun and taking classes on shooting. The only thing we have been able to accomplish is getting her to carry pepper spray. But many women have been going out and taking self defense classes and others are arming themselves in response to this threat. I was glad to see on AMW that they showed women taking marksmanship classes. And from the looks of it they were fine shooters.

The area isn't gripped with fear, though, like has happened in some cities when such things have happened. But there is growing concern, especially when you see the details they have now about this killer. This person isn't following any patterns, and the evidence they have doesn't add up to much in reality. Hopefully last night's show will help with this, but as this has been confined in La, most here already know all that was shown last night. Trust me, not a week goes by without some mention of the serial killer around here on the news.

I included a section on this for a paper I had to do in a class last semester. I too, was happy to hear the governor supporting our cause.
