The
3200 line overall is one of the best values in scopes. The
10x40 ($179.) is often over looked by serious shooters because it has no
parallax adjustment which makes it difficult to use at long ranges. Bushnell is often stereotyped because their offerings span a wide range of quality. What you have to understand is that Bushnell, Tasco, Simmons, etc. do not own any factories; they buy from a handful of factories in a handful of countries. Many tasco, Simmons and Bushnells come from the same factory and are the same scope only changed up cosmetically. The
Elite 3200 and
Elite 4200 scopes come from one of the top factories in Japan, a factory that is not used by Simmons or Tasco or any other low end name brand.
Leupold is often considered to be better than Bushnell because for the most part Leupold does not dip down into the low end scope market. Another contributing factor is that a consumer will purchase a $75. Bushnell and not be pleased with its performance, the consumer then has a bad taste and refuses to buy any more Bushnells. The analogy I like to use is one related to vehicles. If you bought Chevettes all your life instead of Corvettes you probably would not be too fond of GM. Leupold for years just had one level of quality and it was higher than most of their competition. This combined with their famous warranty has always made the big L king and the easy “go to” brand when people are discussing optics. Well they got caught resting on their laurels, then they got passed. They no longer have just one level of quality either. In an attempt to compete they offer the low end stripped down
Rifleman ($175.00) and
VX-I series all the way up to the new
VX-L and
VX-7 series ($1,900.00).
In regards to the
Super Sniper scopes. We own the SS line of scopes and are directly responsible for them since we took over. Old tasco era SS scopes have no warranty. Current SWFA production SS scopes have a lifetime warranty performed by Bushnell on our behalf.
One poster asked, “Now that Bushnell purchased Tasco I wonder if they are still making the SS, or is SWFA still selling Tasco made scopes. If they are being made by Bushnell is the quality going to be better or worse?” Remember what I said above about none of these companies owning any factories. Tasco and Bushnell are basically just names, when Bushnell bought tasco they just bought the registered trademark “tasco”. This will allow Bushnell to better cover the entire playing field and posture the tasco name for the lower end products as not to damage the Bushnell name. The SS scopes are still made in the same factory in Japan that they have always been made at. Due to the Navy contract and the subsequent NSN# the scopes can not be altered in any way for better or worse without the consent of the DOD, which we recently obtained so we could address some recurring issues prior to selling the Army thousands of units for use on their
Designated Marksman Rifles.
