looking at purchasing berrys 223 FMJ-BT bullets I found on sale for about $42 anyone use these? do I load the same as say a hornady fmj-bt? I have a short throat chamber so the books spec is rare it fits but just want to make sure everything's safe. just looking for blasting ammo in bulk but don't want junk either.

how hot can I push these too until I have issues? with hornady fmj-bt im at 24gr h335 with a mag primer and seem to be okay.

Buck,
They don't list them on the website but Bass Pro and Cabelas lists them on theirs.

Ohihunter,
Glad you decided to get back in the game. Make sure the bullets are the same length as the Hornadys. If they are, you're good to go. I would personally go 1 gr less to start. The plating vs jacket does make a difference. But not a huge difference.

Check NEReloading.com first. Cheaper and free s/h.

To the question, yes, I've loaded Berry's. Nothing strange or different.

In a word? Yes, I use 'em.

Bass Pro had a sale on 55gr FMJs
Paid $44.99 free shipping

Just checked, still $44.99
economy shipping is $4.95

They are pretty good as far as 55 Gr FMJ goes. Much better than the old Win 55 Gr FMJ I had. Load them like any other 55 Gr FMJ bullet. Seat them so the cannelure is at the case mouth and they will fit. I loaded them at 2.200 to 2.205 OAL.

my local cabelas has them in stock so I figured for the price I could grab them. I tried hornady 55gr sp and they shoot like a shotgun out of my rifles. I haven't tried any fmj yet. i still have to re work my v max loads and get them loaded up and then start FMJ.

there was nothing on TV the other night so i decided to load about 20 44mag for my handi rifle. i started at 23gr imr 4227 and went to 24gr and will shoot them tonight. 24gr is the max per my Hornady manual and Hodgdons manual but if i remember right that load touched 3 holes at 75 yards and should be able to wallop some of these big Ohio deer. Gun seasons a little less than 2 months away so i figured i better get too it.

it felt good to get back at it. now i just have to come up with some extra cash to load 9mm for the first time and finish 223.

I have purchased the Berry 55gr fmj in the past and they work fine.

They are jacketed bullets not plated if I remember correctly.

I used some surplus SRB-118, but many powders will work. Some old favorites among reloaders are H-335, W-748, AA 2230, TAC, H-322, etc.... 8208 is a new one gaining favor.

I bought some of these ar Cabela's in SLC, Ut. I will test them in a .223 bench rifle. I plan to use them for plinking in a DPMS M-4. But would like to know how they perform?
