I have some data using clays powder with .40, anyone ever use it for pistols? I have a ton if clays from shotgun reloading, and if it works I would use it. Ian loading 155 gr. Cast lead bullets and shooting them out of a S&W 4053 semi-DOA pistol with a 4 inch barrel. If not what would you guys recommend? I am not adversed to buying more powder, but have a lot of clays on hand. Here is the data,
155 GR. HDY XTP Hodgdon Clays dia. .400" COL 1.125". Start 3.6gr. 854fps 23,300 PSI 4.0gr 942fps 30,900 PSI

I have not reloaded pistol yet, and am unsure if this is good performance from a .40 or not so any info is greatly appreciated,
John.

Cme,

I have shot about 3,300 rounds of 155 LRN's over 3.6 grains of Clays. It's a soft shooting load. 1.135" COL. You'll like it.

I tried it for a light load with plated 155's, but preferred 700X. Clays might be the bomb with lead.

Thanks for the replies guys, guess I will give it a try when my dies come in.
