Anyone use their air gun indoors?

This is quite the long thread so excuse me if some have already suggested the following.

OK, you're looking to shoot in an apartment. Fine.... But this means you likely do not have the luxary of much distance. So you really don't need a pellet gun that puts them out at anything over about 300 fps. It'll travel the length of any reasonable size apartment in jolly quick enough time. But the low velocity of 300 fps SHOULD result in a pretty darn quiet noise signature. Or at least more like someone spitting out a bit of popcorn shell than a pellet gun.... :D

A steel pellet trap is a bad idea if noise is an issue. Why? Given that you're looking at a multi-pumper and only pumping to reduced pressure your gun should/will have a pretty quiet report. But that pellet hitting the steel backstop/trap is going to make a much louder DING!

Far better to simply hang up a piece of heavy jute back carpet tag end as a back stop. The pile will catch the pellets while the jute blocks penetration. And the fact that it's hanging off the wall on a couple of shelf brackets lets it kick back a little to further control the pellets. It'll sound like you're spitting and beating a carpet clean at the same time.... :D

In fact at the sort of velocities in the lower 300 fps range needed to keep things quiet you may well find that the pellets off the carpet backstop are re-useable. HOWZZAT FOR ECONOMY! ! ! !
