Anyone use USMC Shooting Jacket?

I saw this for the first time today, in OD green, and it looks very functional.

Any advantage or disadvantage to this over a mordern shooting or competition coat?

If the jacket you are looking at is the $60 more or less one it is a starter coat at best. Better than nothing, almost.

They don't call the Creedmore coats "Hardbacks" for nothing. You will get much more support with the "modern" coats. For much more money.

FWIW, I've fired many, many rounds wearing mine. Issued to me in 1984 before my first Division match. Still fits, still wear it. Suits me just fine. As a team back then, we didn't have all the latest equipment or modified rifles, but hard work and lots of "snapping in" allowed us to take several medals at each match. I still like mine better than the "straight jackets" some shooters are using now. MG

I bought a used one from a gun show years ago and use it flipped inside out as I'm a lefty.....works ok.

The one I'm talking about is od grean, and has buttons on the front. It made with same material as BDU's as far as I can tell. It has padded shoulder, elbows and some sort of pad on the bicep (I suspect this is for the sling somehow)
It looks like it would be better than nothing in prone or sitting but worthless offhand.

I've read how they were worthless, but I got the same impression of the 75.00 CMP jackets.

Anyway, I only compete a few times per year, but I do spend a lot of time prone and sitting. Plus this jacket is used, but in new condition for 30.00.

I think I'll just have to give it a try.

When I was in the Corps, I got my hands on one, had it fitted perfectly, and loved it. Then I got out, joined the AF, and gained a bit of weight. I miss that jacket.

I have one. I tried it with a Garand, but the metal Garand buttplate would slip way too much when I fired it. I have since bought a simple canvas Creedmore jacket and it works much better.

But for 30 dollars, I don't think you can go wrong.

OK for offhand the jacket buttons need to be moved and resown so as to provide a tight fit as possable. then a military cartridge belt is used for waist support(and for mag pouch) use new lace up boots wear two pair of socks and lace them up tight. For problems with the butt plate slipping off the shoulder, use rosin, or other "sticky" stuff. Yes the pad on the left side is a "pulse" pad to eliminate some of the pulse movement through the sling. As far as stability in the offhand position, follow the basics, natural point of aim, proper fore arm support and shooting position, and SNAP IN!! For every round fired in the match, spend at least 1 hour dry firing and holding sight picture. You WILL improve! MG
